He’s at that age where this can totally mean something else.
As I always say when these “university courses should be in finnish” news come out, good luck studying anything other than pure mathematics and law with only finnish.
Any subject that involves students and professionals having to update their knowledge periodically as new findings come out **will** require English.
You’re studying medicine. A new reaction to a drug is discovered in the USA. Good luck reading the report if your university hasn’t prepared you to read academic literature in English in the name of linguistic purism
You’re studying nuclear engineering, and the documents detailing the design of the powerplant you’re studying are all in French or English
Or even: some random university in a small, non-anglo country makes a very important breakthrough in astronomy.
a) what are the chances that a anglo university isn’t already co-authoring the paper, or sponsoring the study
b) if the random country’s university wants global recognition, the paper isn’t going to be written in proto-latgallian, it’s going to be in English
I’m sorry, there might be valid concerns around the use of Finnish, but higher education can’t be mutilated because of some identity politics.
Maybe countries like france or germany can afford to either have all their research in their native language or translate everything perfectly and quickly. Finland can’t
English is the new Latin when it comes to education, and if it falls, the next lingua franca is sure as hell not going to be finnish. They should get their heads out their asses and let the grownups work
Wait what the hell is this about Finnish arms being sold to Russia? We have donated tons of stuff to Ukraine – or was the arms sale before the war?
So, I guess Finland needs to attract more foreign talent and healthcare workers to cope with the lack of workers… and to prevent people from using the English language.
