Hi !

I’m french and I have a Youtube channel where I make documentaries around the world about unusual stuff.

I’m planning a trip near Hanover and found some interesting ideas like the mite cheese in Würchwitz or the funny story of The Broken in Wernigerode where a experiment failed to turn a goat into a boy : [https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/the-brocken-wernigerode-germany](https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/the-brocken-wernigerode-germany)

I also discovered the “Bielefeld conspiracy”. I find this very interesting and know it’s of course a joke that has been around for 30 years. But it’s hard to know if some people really believed on this conspiracy ? And nowadays, do you know if people still believe in this conspiracy and think Bielefeld doesn’t exist ?

Because when I read about it, of course, it’s a great subject to make jokes so it’s hard to understand if everybody is joking or if some people think it’s real.

So please, could you tell me, without joking (sorry!), if this is still believed that Bielefeld doesn’t exist ?

Thanx !

Edit : oh, and if you have idea about unusual stuff in Germany, please tell me !

Here is a video I made in Finland about a priest who organizes Metal Mass, if you would to see what kind of videos I make : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R52bplbJltc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R52bplbJltc)

  1. It’s more of a running joke, but you’ll probably still find people who believe it.

  2. No not really, and it probably never was. But it’s just the one completely random gag everybody knows and participates in.
Probably comparable to the Australian “drop bear”.

  3. It’s not a conspiracy, it really doesn’t exist. You can trust me, I went to Bielefeld just two weeks ago and saw it with my own eyes.

  4. We have a TV series (Wilsberg) which has a running gag of mentioning Bielefeld in each episode. One episode plays completely in Bielefeld which makes it even more bizarre.

  5. People will make you believe, that they do. They dont. Its said to have started as an sozial experiment, but really peolpe only stop when Bielefelder get mad. To funny to admit, that Bielefeld is kinda nice

  6. I wont be surprised if some people would really believe Bielefeld to be fake, but since it’s creation the Bielefeld conspiracy always was a satire on how conspiracy theories work, and is known for that. So people never really belived Bielefeld to be fake, and those very few who might exist that do, probably belive a whole bunch of other equally laughable conspiracy theories.

After all flat-eartherism (re-)started as an internet meme, and there is much too many people, an embarressing amount of them, that honestly seem to believe in that too.

If you look for weird traditions in germany, you should point your watchful eye at Borkum and the archaic tradition of Klaasohm. [(since it’s got no english Wikipedia article, here is a post i made about it on Reddit 2 years ago)](https://www.reddit.com/r/germany/comments/s6uxao/klaasohm_one_of_the_weirdest_rites_of_germany/)

  7. First time I’m hearing of this „bielefeld“ and a supposed conspiracy about it
