  1. There is like at least one school and/or street in each city named after her. And wdym Poland born? She is Polish but emigrated and married a frenchman. I know French will likely tell you she is french but they are just being petty.

    Edit. Typo.

  2. She had to leave Poland because at that time women were not allowed to study math and physics in University of Warsaw.

  3. I have to mention that one of the daughters didn’t receive a Nobel prize. Huge disappointment to the family.

  4. Why is that even a question? Why wouldn’t we be proud of her

  5. She wasn’t just Poland born (when she was born Poland was actually under partitions). She was Polish.

She identified as Polish, she spoke Polish and she insisted on using her maiden name.

Calling her just Curie, or saying she’s Poland born instead of saying she’s Polish is just lack of respect to her and her own identity.

  6. Yes. I think she is one of the _very_ few historical figures in our nation that are admired by everyone without any controversy whatsoever.

  7. Im not her, why for God’s sake should I be proud of someone else?

  8. Yes, and we’re sad that sexist French popularized her under a name she wasnt even using – Curie. It’s her husbands name. She was fighting for acknowledgement, she was signing letters as Skłodowska-Curie, but even her name was taken away from her.

  9. And what her having two children has to do with this?

Sorry but looking at you username I can’t resist the impression that you may be a bit obsessed about people having children.

What are you trying to prove here?

  10. And everyone outside Poland think she was French. The same with Chopin.

  11. No, because it’s her husband Pierre Curie who did all the work for which she only took the merits. There are also some rumors that she cheated on him.

  12. This “Poland born woman” is Polish, and we are all proud of her, also the French are proud of her

  13. Why would anyone be proud of someone who lived and died before one was born?

  14. The French like to hijack our Polish well known figures, they did the same with Chopin

  15. Her daughter and husband also got the Nobel Prize. The family of geniuses. There are five Nobel Prizes in the family in total.

  16. As others have already mentioned, Maria Skłodowska-Curie was Polish.

It hurts me every time I see her being called “Marie Curie, a frenchwoman”.

She had chosen to maintain her Polish surname for a reason, please don’t forget that she was Polish!
