I mean….kinda deserved.
It wasn’t that bad. It was interesting enough. Entertained me for a couple hours which is more than I can say for most things on TV.
It’s one of the best films of recent years, that it didn’t gain a commercial following is perhaps to be expected. Gorgeous film to watch, only gets better with repeat viewings
Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt are some of the most overexposed and overrated actors out there. Very bad casting decisions.
I didn’t like the movie but it had its moments. I’d be interested to see how I’d view it on a second watch. I think a lot of people that really loved it were sort of pre-disposed to enjoy it based on there fandom of the industry. Which is understandable because who among us doesn’t watch a movie about a subject we already love and look at it through rose colored glasses?
The soundtrack was insane though! Just wasn’t a Christmas film lol
He’s 39 years old. He’ll overcome this one.
This movie gets better the more you watch it. Great cast and interesting story, and some crazy batshit happening, I don’t understand it flopped, besides the big budget. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
I had expectations pretty low from reviews but i liked it enough! I didnt see it in theaters though and wont be buying it so i guess im the problem for him.
Shame. Sure, it wasn’t for everyone, but it was a good movie, and he’s a great director.
Yep. Cost too many people too much money and they stop giving you that much.
Movie was received appropriately for the quality of film it is. I’d be interested to see something else from him in a few years, hope it doesn’t end his career(I don’t think it will).
Maybe it just didn’t have the audience? I haven’t watched the film and I’m not really that interested in films about the film industry/showbiz. I’m sure I’ll get around to watching it one day, but it makes me think there are probably many many others like myself out there.
I didn’t hate it but that movie was exhausting to watch lol.
I read an insider said it literally aired all the dirty laundry Hollywood ever had. All of its dna. So yea probably too early to do that post pandemic. Maybe would be ok now
I really enjoyed this film, disappointed it didn’t do so well. Justin Hurwitz did a cracking job with the soundtrack
He’ll be fine. The movie flopped but he has good name recognition and the movie has its fans, even if I think he should’ve been forced to chop like 45 minutes out of it and maybe 1 to 2 full plotlines. Most people would dream of a failure that has street cred like his. Ari Aster will be in the same boat but Chazelle’s situation is even better, I mean he won an Oscar already. His next movie will be another big thing (just not AS big) that everyone will pay attention to regardless of what it is.
The ending felt real forced and contrived to me. I get it, history of the medium, but the movie was already about that and the ending really took me out of it.
Loved Babylon.
While I understand it having no shot at being profitable (Seriously, I don’t know how this movie got greenlit with the goal of profitability), I do not understand the actual hate for it.
If only, fucking hack.
Babylon was fantastic! Has a bit of a Tarantino vibe.
Chazelle is a good director. He just needs to be reigned in a wee bit
Garbage movie. Walked out of Dolby screening maybe an hour in. Putrid.
Problem with the movie like this is that with a budget that big and the movie that long you really need to appeal to the general audience and this is a niche audience movie. The two don’t mix.
He’ll get another film made, he just needs to be reigned in and scale down.
Personally, I hated the movie but I will admit the guy is talented. Whiplash is great. A lot of artists can’t handle a blank check, and there’s no shame in that.
That’s a shame. Whiplash and First Man were excellent.
I actually liked this movie, it wasn’t the most amazing and I hate Brad Pitt but it had some good parts! I would watch another one of his movies
What the hell is *Babylon*?
