Living in England, like proper Guinness from home. Saw this in Tesco this evening. Anyone ever heard of this or have I missed something…?

  1. Special brew from Nigeria. The Nigerian lads love it. Different flavour from the stuff made in the Lagos factory

  2. Hits you in the back of the head like a warmed shovel .

  3. Nigerian 8% or something. They drop a whisky in sometimes also

  4. Powerful stuff. Tastes very different to the Irish version. Nice though.

  5. They’re something like the second biggest drinkers of Guinness, and it’s brewed there for the last half century or so

  6. I posted elsewhere about my visit to a Irish pub in Windhoek, guy who owned the place had never been to Ireland, never met an Irish person but loved Guinness and decided up open an Irish bar based on them being popular elsewhere in the world.

In I walked, unaware I’d have the best night and the worst hangover of my life because of Nigerian Guinness. It’s *very* different to proper Guinness. Tastes the same but the viscosity, texture, and alcohol content are not the same.

I drank for free, couldn’t refuse a pint, he was calling friends to come by and meet me, christening his bar… I don’t remember getting back to my hotel, I remember waking up with house keeping banging on my door l, a very long cab ride to the airport and nearly missing my flight, throwing up on the plane, and vowing never to visit an Irish bar ever again.

  7. The Guinness Flavoured Extract (GFE) is brewed in St James Gate, put into stainless steel IBC’s and shipped to Africa. It looks like treacle / molasses. The GFE gets added to water, brought to the boil, stirred a bit (don’t know the actual process :D) and then bottled. This way the recipe, process and quality is controlled and the African customers get their preferred version.

There are many different brews of Guinness all catered to the target markets preferred taste. It’s absolutely savage mixed 50/50 with draught Guinness.

I used to work in James Gate for years, but the process may have changed since then.

  8. Taste wise it’s fine but it’s so fucking carbonated that it becomes a chore to drink after a while.

  9. Nigerian special brew Guinness sounds quite special I want some.

  10. Great stuff, rocket fuel though (not that that’s a bad thing!).

  11. Lovely auld tang off that stuff.

It would knock your socks off without you even realising it though

  12. FES is great stuff, much better than regular Guinness. You can get the stuff brewed in Dublin in Tesco in Ireland but I’ve only ever seen single bottles

  13. Isn’t normal Guinness technically imported when it’s outside of Ireland? Or do they have licensed factories?

  14. It’s great stuff, used to drink it all the time when I lived in england, cant find it in Ireland though

  15. Foreign extra is by far peak Guinness. If you know, you know.

  16. That stuff is really nice!! It’s similar to the West Indies porter. That’s a decent price too

  17. I was in Singapore a few years ago. They seved me this in a glass with ice.

Amazing how a city that will give you years in prison for smoking a joint isn’t all over that sort of crime.

  18. Has anyone tried the Jamaican peanut punch made with this stuff?

Condensed milk, peanuts, spices , oats, Guinness , Irish moss, supligen, rum, its said to give you a boost and stamina! A light drink for Sunday afternoon.
