Decline of Belgian trams…

Decline of Belgian trams… from belgium

  1. There was talk about re-installing the Ninove-Brussels tram line a couple years ago. Not going to happen btw. But I always wondered why they got rid of it in the first place.

  2. So, stupid question maybe, but the other places with trams are only Ghent and Antwerp? Or am I forgetting something?

  3. Not surprising considering given how heavily subsidized cars are here. A similar thing happened in the US, they had 1 of the largest public transit systems ever but the new deal and motor companies buying them out was the deathblow.

PS: I am lamenting, it should have only been increasing.

  4. When I was looking for some old pictures of my street (in Brugge) because I was curious what it looked like. To my surprise there were trams going through brugge and through my busy street. I wonder why they got discontinued though.

  5. If only they put the tram from Liege back on the Line 38 from there to Thimister, passing through Fléron, Bressoux, Soumagne, Herve, Battice and Thimister. That would be awesome. Bus lines are very slow and we are still stuck in traffic for hours…

  6. Light rail would be such a good way to connect smaller municipalities to those with a train station. I hate buses, but I love trams.

  7. Near my house there was a tram passing by, now they removed the trails to make a two lanes road but now there’s a bus that takes the exact same route

  8. “We need to use more public transportation to save nature” and then continue to remove bus lines and railways. Good luck 😉
