  1. Acts of violence? Sounds like a symphony of destruction.

  2. Someone will get upset.
EDIT: the downvotes prove my point.

  3. Ah… Interesting to see that Punch and Judy, and their ilk, are being flagged ‘appropriately’ now. So many generations of holidaying children, scarred for life…

  4. Last time I went there there was a 40 minute video playing of an old couple just standing on a windy beach..

Downstairs was full of big swings, which was fun.

  5. I was in Sicily and went to watch a traditional puppet show. There were hero knightsevil moors – and heads flying off, and puppets being disembowled – i should have been traumatised, but it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Sort of like Tom and Jerry on steroids.

  6. I sat and watched this entire show last year, it was great.

  7. Lord, are people this soft these days? Ridiculous this is even necessary.

  8. That one guy with a puppet phobia gunna be breathing easier today

  9. It’s actually a really good piece, I’d recommend checking it out. The puppets are acting out the crusades, complete with beheadings etc – I suspect the content warning is there so that parents don’t think “ooh puppets!” and take their kids in, lol.

  10. Marionettes? No thank you. Thanks for the warning.

At least it isn’t ventriloquist dummies.

  11. I’ve seen this one partly. It’s a re-enactment of the fall of Constantinople or crusades or some other dumb religious war, performed in arabic, and it is legit kind of creepy. Just the puppets talking and moving was unsettling let alone the violence. It was definitely trying to go for shock value and the warning isn’t out of place imo.

It actually stayed in my mind for the rest of the day and I ended up googling it when I got home. Although puppets have always unsettled me tbf.

  12. THIS kind of bollocks is exactly why gullibility is on the increase.

    Too daft to laff at.

  13. People will meme about this as if it’s the Tate being overly sensitive but I work at a public art gallery and you’d be astonished at the shit members of the public get upset about.

I recently had a visitor accompanied by a man approach me to enquire sternly as to why the pre-modern artwork featured so much nudity. It was only as I was midway through my speech about the aesthetics of classicism and the baroque period that I realised that she was completely blind. The gentleman had been describing the artwork to her and she’d gotten upset.

If you ever see a sign like this, it’s because a member of the public has complained about something and it’s set a precedent.

  14. Could you tell me the name of this production, please? Pretty sure I saw this at Nottingham Contemporary a number of years ago during their Somewhat Abstract exhibition.

  15. Eh, I’d rather see this outside and whatever is being shown hasn’t been neutered to avoid complaints. Did you go watch it?

  16. They really need to loosen up over the Punch And Judy Show next to the lobby.

  17. I have no issues with this I’d assume this is more if parents take their kids out for the day they don’t get misled like ‘oh a puppet show’ and don’t realise its not really for kids

  18. Glad they warned me, i can’t stand watching marionettes acting out history. It has no place in a public setting!!! /s
