    Several political analysts have already pointed out that even if Americans overwhelmingly voted Dem, Mike Johnson could simply refuse to swear in the new members.

  15. Exactly. There is an answer here. It’s to win Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, while blowing him out in New York, Illinois, California, Massachusetts, Michigan, Wisconsin, Washington, Colorado, Minnesota. He gets Florida and Rural America. We win everywhere else.

    But it still feels like the Peter Lorre film “M”: yes it’s over… but at what cost? The MAGA types will still be in Congress. The courts will still be fixed. And he could try yet again in ’28 unless he passes and/or another, smarter demagogue comes along.

  18. We already did vote him out. He is going to keep running in 2028 if allowed. He needs it to grift his base. He needs it to stay out of jail. Which he is doing currently. He won’t go away simply by losing the 2024 election. He will say it was rigged and still pull the political strings of the GOP.

    He has to be prosecuted. You can’t have someone so nakedly do illegal things and let it slide because he can make it ugly. Democracy is more than just voting. It’s a level of confidence from the people as well.

  19. I think what concerns me is even beyond Trump we need more protections for our democracy, and that’ll be hard to implement when the Supreme Court is so brazenly corrupt. Trump really highlights just how fragile our democracy is, and although I believe we can defeat him it concerns me what could come after.

    Because after he’s gone the fascist rhetoric will likely die down a lot. A lot of people associate all these negatives with Trump when they should realize it’s the entire party. It’s really only a matter of when they will win the Presidency again. That’s just a matter of time, and so the real question is will we be able to add protections to our democracy before they get the office back again?

  20. I feel the best hope here is that the states rights Supreme Court lets states have rights to how they run elections and Trump isn’t on the ballot in many states.

    That has its own can of worms of course because he will cry witch hunt and politically motivated are those actions and rile his base all up.

  27. If legal means fail to keep him from the presidency, it’s up to the voters. Trump needs to be trounced at the ballot box by a pro democracy majority. Voters need to send a resounding and crystal clear message to our fellow US citizens and to the world that the rule of law, the will of the people and democratic values still alive in the USA.

  30. Impeach SCOTUS judges who adopted theocracy in lieu of upholding the constitution and who imposed a made-up dominionist (and theocratic ) definition for waters of the US to threaten wetlands. They violated their oaths to the constitution and continue to steer America toward theocracy. Keep the RAPIST Trump from office with votes because, well, committing rape and being found guilty of it in a court by a jury that included six men is disqualifying, among other truly terrible things.

  34. Just a reminder that GOP/MAGA is a *post-democracy* movement. They realize their ideas are unpopular with most voters. They know they can no longer win elections so they are doing away with elections.

    Here’s what Republicans are planning in the event Joe Biden wins re-election and Democrats hold the Senate and take the House this November.

    The guy who wrote it predicted J6, so it isn’t some far-fetched idea.
