  1. Yet again, we teachers are being treated like dirt. I urge any teachers on here who are in the NEU to vote yes. Nobody *wants* to strike, but it’s once more unavoidable if this sorry excuse for a “government” carries on throwing teachers – and basically all public sector workers, frankly – under the bus.

  2. I expect an organised union(s) approach to having strikes during the GE

No ruling party looking for re-election will want the public services out on the gate

If the unions are clever, they will know they won’t force any pay awards and will take a day here and there, just to raise awareness that the people we rely on, are all seriously fucked off.

Its also a message to labour

  3. Good! My mother is a teacher and the amount of crap her and her colleagues deal with is terrible.

  4. Yesterday I was accused of physically assaulting a student when they were in an out of bounds area (my classroom corridor). As there was no cctv available, it took all day for staff to interview students nearby and the student that accused me, his parents and so on.

The amount of stress I was under, whilst teaching all day and told to act normal, whilst facing losing my job over a wild accusation

They decided to believe me, and the student will be in isolation for 1 day. (Monday). This is normalised in schools now and teachers are not safe. This isn’t even beginning to scratch the surface of problems in education, but it goes to show how little the profession is respected anymore. These strikes are our chance to be heard, and hopefully to get some real assurances in place for education. Vote yes
