Heat pumps have become the main source of heating in Norway

  1. The countries with the coldest winters have the highest adoption rates.

There goes the argument that heat pumps are too inefficient when it is really cold…

  2. Electric cars and heat pumps… according to some people norway should be the poor, people freeze to death and blackouts every day

  3. In Romania, also all my friends who built houses during the last couple of years, have chosen heat pumps. I was curious to see how we rank.

  4. The main? Mostly an auxiliary cost-cutting measure, at least in Finland.

  5. Varmepumpe. One of the first Norwegian words that I learned years ago. I still think it’s a really cute word.

  6. Heat pumps in Norway is often supported both private and large scale industrial or commercial building. Its almost 1:1 between heating need and rank on the list.

  7. Can’t be right, Norway is colder than Germany, and everyone knows that heath pumps don’t work because of cold and bad weather.

  8. 66% of households in Denmark are heated by central/district heating so the market for heat pumps isn’t that huge in Denmark. In that respect I’d say 22% (or so) heat pumps is quite good.

  9. Netherlands: Many friends and family want the air or ground heatpumps but the market has an insane shortage of specialist and is flooded with cowboys, misinformation and crappy subsidies. Such a shame. Luckily new houses require a solution without gas/oil.

  10. The reality is this. Norway, 50% of all homes burn wood. Finland, 25% burn wood. And so on. Burning wood is neither clean nor sustainable. Else you’ve fallen for propaganda.

  11. I got one 2 years ago when the electricity price was insanely high. And don’t regret it one bit

  12. I had one installed in november, year ago. It works quite well but we had to wait since march to have the pump and available specialists to install it. People are so interested that market just doesnt keep up with demand for them

  13. USA from Sweden

The fact that this is happening in 2024 while in America they’ve had this literally for generations as a norm is just baffling to me. In Sweden for example, I had a newer home, it had very rare central air. I could even use Google’s Nest (yes it works in Sweden) to control the temperature. It saved me a lot of money.

What’s so baffling to me is this idea that “home are SO superior that they dont need anything!!!” meanwhile last time I visited Germany, I stayed at a friends house and was so insanely hot I got a hotel. That turned into a big ordeal as it was seen as an insult but I was burning up, I literally got probably an hours sleep.

The reality is technologically speaking much of Europe is FAR behind what has been normal in other countries for GENERATIONS. No, theres no mass school shootings or whatever whataboutism you want to use and this isn’t a “they are better” as I’d never be dumb enough to say any place is better than Europe here but what I am saying is Europe as a whole still doesnt understand how important technology is for security, wellbeing, the climate, etc.

Again, seeing this as a new trend in Germany that didnt happen decades ago is astonishing.. not even touching on Spain, Portugal, Italy.

In my “paper” American house thats very well insulated, I dont need to run my AC much but when I do, its there and unlike in Sweden where central air that heats/cools is not normal (still) but way better than most of the continent, in my state in the US it’s been the norm literally for generations. Air ducts going to each room, air filtration, advanced systems that are normal.

    But I know, it’s a hellscape so I wont say otherwise…
