I begged the bus driver to let me travel home safely

  1. I empathise, I’m sure that must’ve sucked and I would hope that the bus drivers would have helped as much as they could (within reason, so as not to get the sack themselves).

The driver could’ve just said “nope, sorry, can’t help you”, as I’m sure many drivers would and have to other people claiming to be stuck or with a non-functional payment method. They wouldn’t necessarily be wrong for doing so, if the bus company says “you can’t just let people on without paying”.

But I don’t understand why this is a “Women’s safety” issue. Would a man with similar issues have been looked upon with as much empathy? Would he have deserved such an article?

  2. The bus driver must been a massive shareholder in the bus company for one missed fare to affect his dividend like that

  3. I was in Keswick recently when an old confused lady was trying to get the X5 bus but had forgotten her pass. I offered to pay but the driver was happy to let her get on without paying.

Also Stagecoach for what its worth.

  4. *Ms Davies later discovered her pass had been rejected because she had used an old card*

If she wasn’t disabled would it have been a story? She’s not mentally disabled.. ‘woman tried to blag free bus ride’

  5. So she had an expired bus pass and no other means of payment on her?

If she’s so anxious about being able to get about isn’t the lesson here that it’s not a good idea to go out with no cash or card (she was dropped off in a city centre, there are cash machines)

This article is essentially dropping all the vulnerability cards with the person arguing companies should look after everyone when she could have just gone out more prepared
