This is one example where that’s a train direct to Charlton, no changes, no idea why it’s suggesting a rail replacemeng bus.
Every time I try it out it gives me worse journeys than city mapper it’s Google maps

That should be “there’s a direct”. So no need to change as it suggests here
Yeah, it’s a bit shit for trains. Google leads me on some odd journeys too, so I usually use the National Rail app for the overground and the actual http://www.tfl.gov.uk website for buses and tubes.
Yes, use CityMapper.
It’s not showing you incorrect results, you’re just using the app for the wrong purpose (TFL travel app doesn’t show non-TFL services, the train you’re looking for is operated by Southeastern)
So no it’s not rubbish for me as I only use it for tubes and buses
Use CityMapper for multi transport modes or Trainline for just trains, this app is def rubbish
Google map works well for me!
Yep. The journey planner on the website is shite as well. I take two buses to work at the moment (rotating cover) journey planner tells me i need three different ones. I started using google maps. Much better.
Yep, utterly baffling UI design.
I think it’s silly too – feel like it should cover any service you can use an oyster card to compete, rather than “pure” TfL services.
Yup, use CityMapper. But take the arrival times of trains with a pinch of salt. As well as check the actual platforms for the destinations.
I only use it for TFL services, and it’s good enough but I still don’t like it because the time estimates are wayyy off.
Another reason I don’t like the TFL app is it will often choose getting a bus over a 10 min walk, even when I change the options it will forces a bus 2 stops with a 8 min walk over a 10 min walk
It keeps telling me to take the train for 3 stops, then a bus to another train. Then to get out one stop early and take another bus when I can just interchange between my trains and get off at the correct stop.
