“Sgt Kelleher said the accused had two previous convictions for having drugs for his own use.”
€2,000,000 …. jeez that sounds excessive
> Defence solicitor, Eddie Burke, said that things had settled down for the accused since this offence was detected in 2022 and that the defendant was now back living at home and doing better in his life.
I’m going to float the idea that this whole thing is an attempt at diverting this young man from a bad path. The drugs aren’t the real issue here and only serve to give him a fright in court. Note that the drugs were found during a warranted search of a house, the Garda was there for another reason and so this man was “known to Gardaí”.
I might be wrong but maybe this fine isn’t a bad thing.
Cannabis is still illegal so getting caught is going do that, not sure what the point of this post is.
I don’t get it, is cannabis for personal use meant to be legal now or something? He was caught with an illegal substance and he got a fine, why is there even an article written about it?
LEGALIZE IT! But while it’s still illegal, try not to get caught since it carries consequences. And if this is the third time you’ve been caught, maybe consider just giving it up for now as you’re clearly going about it the wrong way.
Reading my own local paper every week, the standard fine seems to be €200 to the poor box unless it’s more than €50 worth of weed.
Let’s be honest, if you’re getting caught you’re a silly billy
I know 4 Garda. All of them smoke a serious amount of weed. The fact is the people arresting them for this stuff are doing their jobs but in their spare time they’re culprits themselves.
