  1. Hungarian nationalists changing our history and in the same time Russia threatening our Romanian speaking people from Moldova. We are almost surrounded here, if Ukraine falls we are quite fucked. But we still hate whatever Russia brought to us during history and we will stay, and remain, and resist here!

  2. The most radical ones are changing the whole world’s history too: They claim Hungarians are aliens from the Sirius system, who came here 10.000 years ago and started civilization by teaching the Sumerians how to grow wheat and build cities. The Sumerians called them “Annunaki”.

  3. “Hungarian Nationalist” I guarantee when a war breaks out, these so called “nationalists ” in every country will be the first people to escape war like cowards.

  4. Russian & Hungary , two of the shittiest countries ever to exist on Earth

  5. Nationalism is wild, all kinds of it from the far-right type to the 19th century romantic kind of nationalism. In fact, I’d say nationalism is cancer. Thinking your own kind is hot shit cause you decide it is. No people nor ethnic groups are special. It’s all recent made-up stuff in most cases.

  6. How is this news? The Daco-Roman theory is at best a debated theory, but realsitically has as much merit as the Hungarians and Huns being related.

Of course there is going to be editing wars over it.

(Im not saying its “cool” for nationalist of nation to edit another nations history, but in this case its literally 19th century propaganda being challenged, altough it might not be because of good intentions, that i admit.)

  7. The amount of anti-hungary sentiment in this thread is baffling honestly. I get dislikeing Fidesz, i get hateing their voters, but reading this thread i get the feeling that whole nation of Hungary is at fault here.

Romanian xenophobes, and nationalist always get let loose in these threads tbf.

Edit: i concede, thread is overtaken by romanian nationalist no point arguing with them.

  8. Interpretation, you mean to say. Actual history involves a linear retelling, well sourced pointing to how the inhabitants interacted with Romanians. That’s why the language and culture is imbued with them… Except it’s not, because there is neither a Scythian Turanian Hungarian contunity or daco-romanian one.

  9. Debates about the origin of Romanians should always be viewed “with a grain of salt.” The most important Romanian national myth is closely related to the Daco-Roman continuity, i.e. that the Romanians were in their current ethnic area before the migration of the Slavs and, most importantly, the Hungarians. This is an attempt to legitimize the existence of Romania on the territory of the former Wallachia, Moldavia and, most importantly, Transylvania. In short, by this logic, Transylvania should belong to Romania not only because Romanians are the majority in that area, but because it has always been a Romanian country by some kind of historical right.

On the other hand, for Hungarian nationalists, Transylvania is a holy land, a kind of Hungarian Jerusalem. It is the land that the Hungarians first conquered during their famous honfoglalás. It is the land of King Matthias, the place from where the anti-Habsburg struggle of Bocskai and Bethlen started, the area where Hungarian culture flourished during the painful period of Ottoman occupation. Based on this logic, Hungarian nationalists legitimize Transylvania as an area that should be returned to Hungary based on historical right. Therefore, the Immigrationist theory can serve well to the Hungarian nationalists because the Romanian presence in Transylvania is shown as the result of the betterment of the Hungarian kings and nobility.

Because of these mutual political fights, the ethnogenesis of Romania becomes a controversial and somewhat tiresome matter for non-Romanians, i.e. non-Hungarians. Instead of approaching this topic impartially and with the desire to discover new knowledge, many Romanians and Hungarians see it as an opportunity to “defend the holy land from foreign invaders.”

  10. *looks at URL, sees .ro domain*

Yeah, definitely a trustworthy, unbiased source in this debate. /s

  11. That does it, bully Hungary until they leave NATO and the EU, we don’t need their parasitic asses in our camp

  12. Not this shit again…
For the 100th time: there are, like 5 unhinged people who are fighting an edit war with 5 other people. It’s not a ‘network organized by nationalists’, it’s a bunch of dickheads with too much free time. This is not an r/Europe matter. It’s just fashionable to shit on Hungarians this time because of the bad PR our assface government gave us.
