Post Office a ‘dead duck’ and should be sold to Amazon for £1, Alan Bates tells MPs

The the culture’s always been post office hasn’t changed it’s been the same for donkey years it will not change and you cannot change it my personal view about post office is it’s a dead duck and it has been for years and it’s going to be a money pck for the taxpayer for

Years to come and you should sell it to someone like Amazon for a pound get really good contracts for all the serving sub postmasters and within a few years you’ll have one of the best networks around radical proposal and not one I’m sure that not one I’m sure that

Many of our constituents would be comfortable with

The former post office operators giving evidence to the business committee said there was a problem with the whole culture at the Post Office.

Alan Bates, founder of the Justice for Subpostmasters Alliance and the person whose story formed the basis of the ITV drama that turbocharged political interest in the scandal, said the Post Office was a ‘dead duck’ and had been for years. ‘You should sell it to someone like Amazon for a pound, get really good contracts for all the serving subpostmasters. And within a few years you’d have one of the best networks around.’

  1. Conservative policy: destroy public services so their voters dislike that service, sell off that public service to their donors and supporters to make money off.

    They're thieves.

  2. How about ban all the foreign companies from having any rights over the post at all and the post office deal with all and every delivery of any kind.

  3. When you put people in charge of any organization in which they have not actually done the job, and the Post Office is but one example of this, there are many others. This is what you get, incompetence on a massive scale. The people who actual do the job are the only ones that should be in charge, full stop.

  4. The alternative of course is to watch millions get wasted by incompetent Post Office management and meddling governments for the next few decades.

  5. The post office doesn't need to be profitable, it's tax payer subsidised postage, which stops comoanies like amazon and ups, fedex, etc. profiteering and hiking up the price

Look at what is going on with food/supermarkets. There's lots of competition but they still managed to profiteer and hike prices

  6. What a disgusting mess this country is in these days. Just ABSYMAL self-serving senior management. Taxpayers getting the bill to support the abused.
I want to see protecutions and imprisonment for Paula Vennells and others culpable.

  7. Suddenly Alan Bates becomes an enemy … perhaps he’s onto some thing and would save the tax payers billions… and yes the service would be better as it’s dire now
