I lost my Frey Bentos virginity today. I can’t say it was the best pie I’ve ever had but it was an experience.

  1. Had a 1970s themed Sunday lunch with some friends. Prawn cocktail starter. We made Knickerbocker glory for pudding. And the piece de resistance was the full range of Fray Bentos pies, served with mash, parsnips and peas and carrots.

  27. Oh man, my mouth is watering at all that FB pastry! I’ve been coeliac for the last 10+ years and proper pastry is the thing I miss the most. Especially FB pastry.

  32. I just ate a full steak and kidney one today for the first time in a year (well when they were £1) and I don’t regret one part of it.

  33. It doesn’t have to be the *best* because it’s the *easiest*. After a hard day doing a hard job it’s quick, easy and comforting scran. If you have the time and the patience to make a better pie then definitely do. If you have the money to buy a better pie then definitely do. There was a time when it was all I had to look forward to and so I shall forever defend it.
