  1. Terrible. The French should’ve reacted far more robustly to the series of coups that occurred throughout the Sahel in the past few years.

    It would’ve saved these countries from employing Wagner in their fight.

  2. It’s plausible that it’s Burkina Faso’s military junta/government behind this. The people have been turning against them in recent months, and it’s not above them to create a tragedy and blame an “evil outside force” to take attention off of themselves. Since they’ve buddied up to Russia and invited Russian mercenaries to come into the country, they’re capable of anything. In fact, it’s just the type of thing that [Putin himself might do.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_Russian_apartment_bombings)
