UK general election opinion polls tracker: Labour leading as election looms

  1. It would be wonderful to see the tories and the SNP losing so many MPs, and the libdems doubling in size but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Much of this depends on tory voters not changing their mind and on reform.

I worry it will be much closer

  2. It will be closer than this. But still. Lab would have to do something drastic to drop the ball on this one.

  3. Despite opinion polling getting it wrong in the past, I am fairly certain the polls are correct now and that they won’t budge much.

The Tories have been in power for 14 years…. no party stays in power forever. Even the traditional voters see the tell-tale signs of the end of a government: infighting, scandals, fatigue with the same policies…

I dare say however that this time it seems like it’s more down to the failures of the last 2 Tory governments (particularly Johnson and Truss) rather than a passion for Keir Starmer. Neverthless, even as someone who tilts more to the right, the time has come. I would rather it be Starmer than his predecessor.

  4. I think everything the conservatives do from now on, revolves around trying to mitigate the risk of coming 3rd, so we might see some surprising moves which might seem bizarre.

  5. The Tories are done for even if Reform disappeared tomorrow they would still lose

  6. This is about as big of a majority as I would like to see. Might even be too big.

I know people want to see the Tories effectively wiped out, and I understand why, and while I will almost certainly be voting for my Labour candidate at the next election unless they drop something utterly batshit, I don’t like Starmer so much that I want to see him have absolute rule. The opposition’s job is to hold the government’s feet to the fire and with each extra seat of majority the flames get moved that much further away.

Obviously, Starmer’s unseating of “Saint Jeremy” has earned him some opposition from the left of the party, parliamentary and membership. He needs a little pushback from the right too.

At the very least, this helps to keep him in the sensible centre and avoids a hard right surge in reaction. This next election is pretty clear, but the next one isn’t given all the issues that face the country. Starmer is going to be judged pretty hard on the next 5 years.

Or, perhaps we’ll all be united under Premier Galloway by then /s.

  7. The people are going to get rid of the Tories and elect… the Tories.

  8. Election looms? The bastards are going to cling to power as ong as possible as they know they’re doomed. I wouldn’t be surprised by a January 2025 election.

Get out. The vast majority of the country don’t want you.

  9. Reminder that Labour aren’t leading because of their own virtues, they’re in the lead because A. The Tories are cunts, and B. We still have a mostly unrepresentative democracy.

  10. So 4 more years of tories then.

now I only say this given the nations need to shoot itself in the foot at the last minute.

  11. OK, what are the odds that Labour does something bloody stupid that will damage their chances?
