It was already the country with the world’s lowest birth rate but South Korea’s fertility rate has plunged to a record low according to the country’s official data further deepening its demographic crisis there were 230,000 births in 2023 a decrease of 7.7% from the year before the total fertility rate recorded during

  1. South Korea used to be a 10 largest economy for a long time. It used to be a very "unique" country in Asia. (In Asia, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore are the only developed countries ) But now it is the 12th largest economy. I believe they can become the 10th largest economy again because they have world-class technology, but if the population crisis persists, it will be difficult.

  2. Just my 2 cents: Asia has grown too fast in a relatively short period of time to be sustainable. Fast growth comes at a high societal cost. Growth in the West took place over a much longer period of time, and therefore, society has been able to cope better and adjust to lower birth rates. Such growth does not allow for a transition period, which in turn makes available fewer options to deal with the issue. I really see an alarming demographic collapse coming in South Korea, China, Japan.

  3. Korean moms need 2 years compensated child rearing time off from work like many EU countries. I love the Korean people but they sometimes work insanely hard at their jobs. Give mommy's time off with government subsidized stipends.

  4. Eurocentric lookism = girls find guys ugly. girls can hide behind makeup
capitalism = netflix/internet plan/ regular iphone upgrade are seen as mandatory cost
Feminism = women pressured the same as men. They have to sacrifice their teenage years studying in order to have a decent life in the future which also means they're less willing to sacrifice their careers.

  5. Childless tax and ban from good careers as well as educational opportunities for selfish people that don’t perform duty to reproduce society
