What is wrong with this DHL courier and why did this happen? (details in comments)

  1. Because short stories are really not something that I can do just like I can’t avoid cleaning up something that really bothers me or correcting someone on a mistake (think I might have a little bit of OCD) I am gonna tell a slightly longer version of this.

Yesterday I got my booster dose and today I really did not feel well at work so I left earlier. Kept that short. On my way home I checked my e-mail and I saw that I am going to get a package today. I was really excited about it and looking very much forward to it.

I got home at about 10 AM and I could see that the courier is “More than 10 stops away from you. Should be there between 10:45-12:15”. Obviously I kept refreshing that every 10 minutes.

Fast forward to 11:25 when I see that courier is 3 stops away. My heart is racing with excitement. Not a minute passes and the bell rings. That is odd since I can see on the app that it still has some more way to go. I answer and there’s a TNT courier. I got another package that was supposed to come in a week from now. Later on I checked my e-mail and noticed that I got an e-mail on Tuesday about this one. Equally excited about this one too so yay! Double happiness today.

A few more minutes pass and I check the app. “Do, 20.01.2022, 11:38 – Leider war eine Zustellung der Sendung nicht möglich. Gründe hierfür können sein: Kein Zugang zum Gebäude, kein Schild an der Klinger, Empfänger verzogen.” Well that does not sound right is my first thought. I never had that problem before with DHL. My name is written on the package, also on the button at the entrance of the building. Nobody rang the bell. I am aghast. My fiance looks out the window and sees that the DHL car is still outside.

I go out wearing my gingerbread man pajamas and first thing I do is check the mailbox. I tell myself that he probably left a DHL note that I might be able to pick the package from somewhere else but there is none. I go outside and go to the DHL van. I look inside. He is sitting there looking at the steering wheel doing nothing. I knock on the window and ask him if he happens to have a package for me. He seems surprised at first but wakes up from whatever he was dreaming and looks for the package. Oh, look. Yes, I do have a package.

Now, I do not wanna imply that he did that for other people but it really seemed to me like he waited in the car for a couple of minutes in front of the building so that it shows in their app that he was there and then just left. I would like to mention that we lived here for 18 months now and not a single courier has ever done that before. Every time we got a package they delivered it. When we were not home for some reason (and that happened a lot in the last months) they left it by one of our neighbors.

When I got back into the apartment my fiance told me that she thinks that the same guy did the same thing with one of the packages she had to receive. I would like to stress out on the “always receiving the packages before”. One of our neighbors is an older lady who is wheelchair bound but is a very sweet person and always took our packages when we couldn’t. And all couriers know her and got accustomed to her taking them. Should I file a complaint with DHL? Will I not get any more packages if this guy has to deliver them?

tl;dr: I don’t function like that but: Courier did not deliver package. Sat in car not doing anything. Reported me as not home/not answering the bell.

  2. You have very limited options anyway, since the contracting party is only the shipper. It is annoying, but save your nerves and contact the sender first.

  3. It happens sometimes. Some don’t actually bother ringing the door bell or delivering the parcel and then you end up having to go to the filiale yourself.
