{an2}The nightly news with Barbara Hahlweg. {an2}Good evening and welcome to this overview of Saturday’s news. {an2}Rudi Cerne will have sport for you a bit later. -Hello and good evening. {an2}The chancellor calls it “a very serious matter”. {an2}Intercepted: Russia is said to have recorded a conversation among German military officers {an2}about Taurus cruise missiles.

{an2}Support from the air: The USA drops aid supplies over Gaza. {an2}And a shower of medals for the women’s bobsleigh team: {an2}World Championship gold, silver, and bronze went to the Germans. {an2}Three hours ago, Germany’s ministry of defence confirmed: {an2}An air force conversation was intercepted. {an2}Yesterday evening, Russia published a recording

{an2}of a candid, online discussion among German officers {an2}about how German Taurus cruise missiles could be used in Ukraine. {an2}There are a lot of questions, such as how Russia obtained the recording. {an2}Nicole Diekmann reports. {an2}A line in the sand for Germany… {an2}High-ranking air force officers in a confidential conversation.

{an2}40 minutes of dialogue not intended for the public, but somehow revealed {an2}via Russia’s state broadcaster “RT” of all places. {an2}It’s caused such an uproar that the chancellor called in from Rome {an2}after his private meeting with the pope. {an2}What is being reported here is a very serious matter.

{an2}Therefore it’s being investigated very carefully, very intensively, {an2}and very quickly. That’s necessary. {an2}The ministry of defence confirmed the incident {an2}and has launched an investigation. {an2}Is Russia now systematically spying? {an2}In Berlin, there’s a lot of concern about Germany’s cyber security. {an2}This is an extremely serious matter.

{an2}And we must now clarify as quickly as possible {an2}whether this is an isolated incident {an2}or a structural security problem in the German government’s communications. {an2}The debate about sending Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine {an2}is still gathering steam. {an2}Chancellor Scholz is against it, because German soldiers would have to be sent with them.

{an2}But the military doesn’t seem to view it that rigidly. {an2}The FDP is turning up the heat on the chancellor. {an2}He’s had quite a learning curve this week. {an2}I hope that the chancellor’s office will draw the right conclusions. {an2}The CDU is more pointed.

{an2}The federal government has got to get up to speed with communications technology, {an2}because this is certainly only the tip of the iceberg. {an2}We also need to clarify {an2}why our nation’s chancellor is making false claims in public, {an2}when he says that the German military needs to be involved on site.

{an2}Berlin, one day after the leak. {an2}The concern is huge and the ramifications still unknown. {an2}Let’s check in with our correspondents from Moscow and Berlin. {an2}First, Diana Zimmermann. Why is this such a sensitive subject? {an2}The Russians have obtained a conversation {an2}among high-ranking German officers. {an2}This is of course a massive security breach

{an2}and raises the question, “What else do they know?” {an2}The chancellor has promised to clarify the situation. {an2}He says the situation is very serious. {an2}You could even say it is potentially dangerous. {an2}It’s certainly very embarrassing. {an2}Air force inspector Gerhartz, who was involved in the conversation, {an2}is now under massive pressure.

{an2}He could lose his job. {an2}That would be a massive loss for the ministry of defence. {an2}It’s said the chancellor doesn’t want to supply Ukraine with Taurus missiles, {an2}because that could indirectly involve Germany in the war. {an2}Does the officers’ conversation contradict that? {an2}That’s what the opposition says. At first glance that seems true.

{an2}In this very long conversation, the officers come to the conclusion {an2}that it would be possible {an2}to train Ukrainians on these cruise missiles. {an2}But during this lengthy conversation, {an2}the four men come up with some pretty creative ideas {an2}as to how these cruise missiles {an2}could be secretly programmed by Germans.

{an2}It becomes clear that they think {an2}that this would be the technically superior option. {an2}They assume that Ukraine doesn’t have the necessary missions planning data. {an2}The chancellor seems to be confirming this, {an2}along with the statement made that the Taurus is not the deciding factor. {an2}Still, the four men also say

{an2}that the chancellor doesn’t have the political will {an2}to support Ukraine with this weapon. {an2}Thank you, Diana, let’s move on to Armin Coerper. {an2}Whose interest is Moscow serving by publishing this? {an2}I think there are two interests. {an2}Firstly, the Kremlin is trying to put pressure on Chancellor Scholz

{an2}to stick to his “no” on the Taurus. {an2}If he changes his mind now and delivers it after all, {an2}after the officers have discussed it behind his back and without his knowledge, {an2}that would look very, very weak from Russia’s point of view. {an2}The other point is the timing.

{an2}The recording was published by Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of “Russia Today”. {an2}She’s Vladimir Putin’s chief propagandist. {an2}She’s not doing this when she wants to, when it occurs to her, {an2}but rather when she is told to. {an2}So a message is getting sent out {an2}exactly two weeks before the presidential election. {an2}It says that the Germans

{an2}are threatening to send soldiers to Ukraine. {an2}They would be helping operate weapons {an2}that could hit the Crimean bridge and even Moscow. {an2}This evokes the collective memory of World War II. {an2}And who could possibly protect the people from that? {an2}Only Vladimir Putin, of course. {an2}Thank you for this information from Berlin and Moscow.

{an2}That was Armin Coerper and Diana Zimmermann. {an2}One day after the funeral of Kremlin critic Navalny, {an2}people are still flocking to the cemetery {an2}to say their goodbyes in person. {an2}At least 128 people in 20 cities {an2}were said to have been arrested during yesterday’s funeral services.

{an2}Among the mourners who laid flowers at the grave today {an2}were once again Navalny’s mother and mother-in-law. {an2}Eyewitnesses described the situation as calm. {an2}The police apparently let the mourners through unhindered. {an2}The fate of the people in the Gaza Strip is upsetting. {an2}The EU is now calling for an independent international investigation

{an2}into yesterday’s incident involving an aid convoy. {an2}More than 100 people were killed. {an2}The US government today {an2}began airdropping aid over Gaza. {an2}However, this is difficult when people are crammed into such a small space {an2}and the social order has broken down as a result of the war. {an2}Elmar Thevessen has more.

{an2}These are probably the first images of US aircraft {an2}on their way to deliver aid from the air, {an2}at the US president’s request. {an2}Together with our friends, we will drop aid packages {an2}with food and other things. {an2}At Friday’s meeting with the Italian Prime Minister Meloni, {an2}Biden was visibly angry

{an2}about the terrible events during the delivery of aid by truck. {an2}More than 100 people were killed and many more injured. {an2}The US is now examining all available video footage {an2}to determine the extent to which Israeli soldiers were responsible {an2}since they opened fire.

{an2}Innocent people are just trying to feed their families in this war. {an2}And you’ve seen what is happening. {an2}We must do more, and we will do more. {an2}Jordan, France, and the Arab Emirates {an2}are already dropping parcels. {an2}But the aid often doesn’t reach those who need it most. {an2}Israel’s actions are angering the US government.

{an2}The latest incidents could impede the ceasefire and hostage release {an2}that was just recently negotiated. {an2}We are not there yet. {an2}We’re getting there, but maybe not just yet. {an2}Aid deliveries are getting underway, and Washington is hoping {an2}that both Israel and Hamas will agree to the ceasefire. {an2}Let’s check in with Elmar Thevessen in Washington.

{an2}We’re hearing from the USA that Israel has agreed to a ceasefire {an2}if the hostages are released. {an2}Can you tell us about that? {an2}A high-ranking government official here in Washington {an2}has apparently confirmed to several US media outlets {an2}that the framework conditions for a deal have been agreed on

{an2}and that Israel has also agreed in principle. {an2}It would be a six-week ceasefire, {an2}which could possibly turn into a longer ceasefire. {an2}The main prerequisite for this is that Hamas has to agree {an2}to give Israel a list of all surviving hostages {an2}and then to release those hostages. {an2}Other conditions have apparently also been discussed.

{an2}The question is how many Palestinians will be released from prisons in Israel. {an2}There should be another round of negotiations this Sunday {an2}in Cairo, Egypt, {an2}but without Israel’s taking part because it’s Hamas’ turn now. {an2}US Vice President Harris will meet with Israel’s Benny Gantz {an2}at the White House on Monday.

{an2}He’s a member of Israel’s war cabinet. {an2}They’ll discuss the next steps. {an2}Thank you, Elmar Thevessen in Washington. {an2}The Houthis have been attacking merchant ships in the Red Sea {an2}since the beginning of the war in Gaza. {an2}Now a cargo ship has sunk there, {an2}after an attack about two weeks ago.

{an2}The badly damaged Rubymar sank in stormy seas during the night, {an2}according to Yemen’s internationally recognized government in Aden. {an2}It had 41,000 tonnes of fertilizer on board, according to the US military. {an2}An oil slick had already formed beforehand. {an2}German Health Minister Lauterbach says Germany’s healthcare system {an2}needs to be better prepared for war.

{an2}Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, {an2}some changes need to be made. {an2}Lauterbach told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” newspaper {an2}that in the event of an alliance conflict, {an2}Germany could become a hub for caring for the wounded from other countries.

{an2}At least eight people have been killed in new Russian drone attacks on Ukraine. {an2}Seven people were killed in Odesa alone, in the south of the country. {an2}One of those was a three-year-old child. {an2}A drone hit a multi-storey house during the night {an2}destroying a total of 18 flats.

{an2}There were further Russian attacks further east in Kherson, {an2}and in Kharkiv in northern Ukraine. {an2}We heard already that Germany’s federal chancellor is in Rome. {an2}He had a 35 minute private audience with the pope, meeting there with him for the first time. {an2}Scholz also spoke at the meeting of the European Social Democrats.

{an2}They chose their lead candidates for the European elections on 8 June. {an2}The only candidate was Luxembourg’s Nicolas Schmit. {an2}He’s the European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights. {an2}Isabelle Schaefers introduces the 70-year-old. {an2}This man has never had this much Europe-wide attention. {an2}Nicolas Schmit was chosen today {an2}as the European Social Democrats’ lead candidate.

{an2}No one in the party is contesting him. {an2}This is his platform: {an2}I will not give up on opportunities for our children and young people; {an2}I will not give up when it comes to fighting poverty; {an2}and I will not give up on protecting our planet.

{an2}The Luxembourger is currently EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights. {an2}The 70-year-old is now taking on his much better-known boss, {an2}European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. {an2}She’s expected to be the lead candidate for the conservative European People’s Party. {an2}Ursula von der Leyen was also unknown outside of Germany.

{an2}That’s just the way it is in Europe, {an2}that people are not immediately known everywhere. {an2}But we want to vote for the best person, not the best known. {an2}The European Social Democrats are currently in second place in the polls, {an2}well behind the Conservatives.

{an2}EU-critical and right-wing populist parties are also on the rise in some countries. {an2}That’s why one concern in particular can be heard again and again. {an2}What they want is a nationalist Europe. {an2}What they are trying to undermine {an2}is that our nation states can only remain strong {an2}in a united Europe.

{an2}They still have three months left {an2}to convince European voters with their party platform. {an2}And their lead candidate. {an2}Demonstrations against right-wing extremism and for an open society {an2}took place in several cities again today. {an2}According to the Duisburg police, 15,000 people took to the streets there.

{an2}The German Confederation of Trade Unions had called for the demonstration {an2}under the motto, “Duisburg is really colourful”. {an2}Numerous associations and groups joined in. {an2}People also protested for an open society in smaller towns, {an2}such as Köthen in Saxony-Anhalt. {an2}The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees is to open a number of new positions

{an2}in order to speed up asylum procedures. {an2}Specifically, 1,160 additional posts are planned. {an2}Interior Minister Faeser announced that in the “Welt am Sonntag” newspaper. {an2}A ministry spokesperson spoke of full-time positions {an2}that are to be filled as quickly as possible. {an2}The ministry currently has around 8,000 positions.

{an2}Germany’s highly specialised factory farming has been criticized for years. {an2}Demands for better animal welfare are getting increasingly louder. {an2}Animal-friendly quarters, space to roam and bedding cost money. {an2}The German government wants to support farmers, {an2}starting with pig farmers. {an2}The funding program is just starting. {an2}Scarlett Sternberg has the details.

{an2}Livestock farmers should have an easier time. {an2}Those who opt for better husbandry, like farmer Martin Schulz, {an2}will receive financial support. {an2}With “housing system four”, his pigs have 1.5 square metres of space per animal, {an2}access to an outdoor enclosure, and straw for digging in.

{an2}We need around twice as much working time as a conventional barn {an2}and these additional costs have to be compensated for. {an2}There are also biological issues that come into play. {an2}The animals can move around more, {an2}so they need more feed to cover their daily energy requirements. {an2}More feed, more space, more electricity…

{an2}The additional running costs are a problem for many farmers. {an2}The number of pigs fell nearly 50 per cent between 2010 and 2020. {an2}At the same time there’s been a dramatic concentration of the market. {an2}This program gives small, traditional farms in particular {an2}a better chance on the market.

{an2}More advanced types of farming receive this money. {an2}Experts say the government is providing 250 million euros annually {an2}for the conversion of livestock farming, and that’s too little. {an2}Around 1.2 billion would be needed per year. {an2}From 2030, even around 2.4 billion. {an2}Another point of contention is the funding for the ongoing additional costs.

{an2}It is limited to seven years. {an2}It’s a challenge, of course. {an2}Anyone building a barn is going to spend millions of euros, {an2}usually borrowed from the bank as a loan. {an2}And they need investment security. {an2}Security that the government cannot yet offer in the long term.

{an2}The program is intended to be just a first step {an2}towards a more animal-friendly future. {an2}”Look, and be amazed.” {an2}That’s the promise of an exhibition at the Frieder Burda Museum in Baden-Baden. {an2}It shows how art has managed to amaze its viewers, {an2}even well before the advent of artificial intelligence, {an2}by illustrating the seemingly impossible.

{an2}Petra Otto had a look. {an2}Something like this can happen with art. {an2}A 1,609 metre tall skyscraper: {an2}that’s exactly one mile tall. {an2}Historically, building this tower would have been unthinkable. {an2}But it’s theoretically possible today. {an2}The “ImPOSSIBLE” exhibition in Baden-Baden {an2}is about the fusion of possible and impossible.

{an2}The imaginary and unattainable has always fascinated artists. {an2}M. C. Escher made water flow downhill and uphill simultaneously {an2}and there are unmistakeable Escher elements {an2}in this computer-animated work. {an2}Escher’s work is human architecture, {an2}so it’s something that’s built, so to speak. {an2}Here the course of the river appears more like a natural phenomenon,

{an2}which would be totally impossible in the real world. {an2}I love paradoxes, {an2}and this is the perfect exhibition to really indulge in them. {an2}Letting your imagination run wild. {an2}Playing with the power of magic. {an2}Just 60 years ago, this photomontage, “The Leap into the Void”, {an2}was revolutionary. {an2}We have completely different technical possibilities.

{an2}We work with new media. In the field of artificial intelligence, {an2}we work with similar, manipulative, means as in art. {an2}But art is used to do something good: to question reality. {an2}A surreal room made of plastic waste. {an2}The work of artist Daniel Knorr invites you

{an2}to become part of the exhibition yourself and turn your thinking upside down. {an2}One correction: I accidentally said earlier {an2}that the incident involving an aid convoy in the Gaza Strip happened yesterday. {an2}Of course it was the day before yesterday. I apologize for that. {an2}”The older, the better.”

{an2}This applies to few people as much as the dazzling Iris Apfel, {an2}US fashion icon and designer. {an2}She liked to describe herself as an “old fashion starlet”. {an2}She died yesterday at the age of 102. {an2}Apfel was known for her extravagant outfits and huge round glasses.

{an2}She was already over 80 when she made her breakthrough on the fashion scene. {an2}Before that, the native New Yorker worked as an interior designer {an2}and, together with her husband, {an2}advised nine US presidents on furnishing the White House. {an2}A quote from Iris Apfel. She said,

{an2}”I never think about my age. It’s just a number.” {an2}Now to you, Rudi. {an2}With sports. The German women achieved gold, silver and bronze {an2}in the two-man bobsleigh at the World Championships in Winterberg. {an2}Lisa Buckwitz and Vanessa Mark took the title ahead of Laura Nolte and Deborah Levi

{an2}and the defending champions Kim Kalicki and Leonie Fiebig. {an2}In the fourth and final run, the leading Lisa Buckwitz and Vanessa Mark {an2}were put under additional pressure by their German rivals {an2}with their respective track record runs. {an2}Buckwitz remained unruffled {an2}and finished 0.05 seconds faster than Laura Nolte.

{an2}In third place, Kim Kalicki completed the German medals sweep. {an2}In the men’s four-man bobsleigh, {an2}double Olympic champion Francesco Friedrich took the lead. {an2}He was followed by two other German bobsleighs {an2}with Johannes Lochner and Adam Ammour. {an2}German double success at the World Cup in Sigulda. {an2}Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal won the women’s doubles

{an2}ahead of Dajana Eitberger and Saskia Schirmer. {an2}In the men’s event, six-time Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt {an2}finished second in the season finale, {an2}missing out on overall World Cup victory. {an2}The former underdog biathlete Benedikt Doll has made an impressive comeback. {an2}One day after reaching a disappointing 74th place,

{an2}he achieved second place in the mass start at Holmenkollen. {an2}3rd place for the German ski jumpers in the team competition in Lahti. {an2}The DSV eagles Andreas Wellinger, Pius Paschke, Stephan Leyhe and Philipp Raimund {an2}flew to 3rd place for the second time in the second classic team event of the season.

{an2}The Norwegians celebrate victory ahead of Austria. {an2}The afternoon results of the German Bundesliga’s 24th matchday. {an2}Borussia Dortmund collected important points in the battle for the Champions League place. {an2}They won over Union Berlin by 2:0. {an2}RB Leipzig achieved a clear 4:1 win at VfL Bochum. {an2}Eintracht Frankfurt stopped their six-game downward trend

{an2}with a 2:1 win against Heidenheim. {an2}Mainz vs. Gladbach 1:1, {an2}Darmstadt experienced a debacle 0:6 against Augsburg. {an2}Yesterday’s Freiburg vs. Bayern Munich 2:2, {an2}An evening highlight will be Wolfsburg vs. VfB Stuttgart. {an2}That’s tonight on “das aktuelle sportstudio”. {an2}Leverkusen has a seven-point lead over Bayern {an2}but could still improve, as could Stuttgart.

{an2}Dortmund remain fourth, with Leipzig within touching distance. {an2}The second half begins with Augsburg. {an2}Wolfsburg, in 13th place, are even with their pursuers {an2}Union Berlin and VfL Bochum. {an2}Mainz and Darmstadt are in the direct relegation places,. {an2}You can see more on “das aktuelle sportstudio” {an2}at 10:30 PM in the ZDF mediathek

{an2}and at 11 PM on ZDF. {an2}Swimming world champion Angelina Köhler is tonight’s guest. {an2}Max Verstappen has won the year’s first Formula 1 race at the Grand Prix in Bahrain. {an2}The three-time world champion celebrated a commanding start-finish victory {an2}ahead of Red Bull teammates Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz piloting a Ferrari:

{an2}a dream city for the defending champion. {an2}Lots of winter sports tomorrow at 10:15 AM, just so you know. {an2}Thank you, Rudi! {an2}Most people will have plenty of sunshine tomorrow, Özden Terli has more in just a minute. {an2}Marietta Slomka is hosting the “heute journal” at 10:45 PM.

{an2}The whole team wishes you a nice weekend. See you tomorrow! {an2}WEATHER REPORT {an2}Good evening and welcome to the weather. {an2}Some pretty warm air is on the way {an2}ahead of this low that’s getting closer. {an2}It’s coming from the west towards the Alps and won’t reach us.

{an2}But here in the Alps there’s a lot of rain and snow {an2}due to the moisture and warmth. {an2}There will be plenty of sunshine here. {an2}Let’s look at tonight. {an2}There will be dense clouds and some rain in the west. {an2}Elsewhere, fog or high fog will form.

{an2}Temperatures will drop to zero degrees in the southeast {an2}and 8 degrees in the far west of Germany. {an2}Tomorrow we’ll see plenty of sunshine from Bavaria to the Lower Rhine. {an2}Some denser clouds in the east. {an2}There may also be high fog here, with a few drops. {an2}But overall it will remain dry.

{an2}Temperatures will reach up to 18 degrees in the southeast. {an2}That could even be higher here depending on the wind. {an2}18 degrees in the Rhine-Main area, 17 degrees on the Lower Rhine. {an2}But even in the east, it will still be 14 degrees. {an2}The next few days,

{an2}some rain on Monday, but still relatively pleasant at 8 to 15 degrees. {an2}From Tuesday on it will be much more mixed {an2}with rain, and some cooler weather. Have a nice evening.

Wiedereinmal Doppelmoral. 🇩🇪einfach zum 🤮

  8. While Putin's regime openly threatens the world, is anyone ashamed to defend their country, freedom and democratic values? One of two. Either you have a lot of shares of Gazprom, Rosneft and Alrosa, or you are just a coward and then what are you doing in power?

Die Bundeswehr will Russland angreifen. Grundgesetz Art 26.

Was fällt ihm ein.

Was denn sonst?

Die Bundeswehr will Russland angreifen. Grundgesetz Art 26.

Ein heimtückischer Angriff also!
