BBC licence fee to be frozen at £159 for two years, government confirms

  1. The freeze saves eight quid a year. They refused to cut vat on energy bills which would save over £100 a year.

They don’t care about your bills. They just hate British institutions they can’t sell off.

  3. Do you think if the BBC had moved away from Capita and explored a different method of licence collection during the dawn of iPlayer they wouldn’t of been able to be dealt a blow like this?

Their relationship with capita always seemed a bit of a faustian pact.

The must have been meetings where somebody said “This aggressive form of fee collection can’t last, surely we can find a more reasonable compromise.”

I wonder how much that enforcement actually claws in verses just not harassing with letters and door to door visits.

I love the BBC and it’s content but I choose not to partake in any services due to my disagreement with the way the fee is collected.

Working with people vulnerable people on the poverty line and those with learning disabilities, I know how distressing the letters and visits can be.

It will be nice when their relationship with capita and over and their form of fee collection doesn’t harass people I care for.

Perhaps I’ll then be able to choose to enjoy their services again.

I don’t like the tory government and I think this is the right thing happening for the wrong reason, I do feel Auntie could of done something more to safeguard herself against this from happening. The drop in income will be enormous and that’s awful but not as awful as harassing the vulnerable in our society.

  4. Annaliese Dodds tweeted this earlier: Today Nadine Dorries said she’s concerned about pressures “on the wallets of hardworking households”.

    Nadine voted for:

    🔨 A personal allowance freeze.
🔨 A public sector pay freeze.
    🔨 A National Insurance rise.
    🔨 A Universal Credit cut.
    🔨 A council tax hike.

    Shameless.

Anyone who thinks is anything _but_ deflection is a mug.

  5. What I haven’t seen anyone ask is, are they planning to sell the BBC off as a resource once the license fee stops?
