  1. Then she should take some of her money and make something that she really wants to play. It’s not like she doesn’t have the money. I’m sure she’s not saying woe is me I haven’t acted, but I mean c’mon, anyone with a name we recognize could make anything they want. Make a feature for a million dollars staring yourself in a role you really want to do, and be happy. Like Reese Witherspoon did.

  2. The quote should continue “and studios don’t want to pay $17 million for sad moms”

  3. I’ve only ever seen her in Raimi’s trilogy, but if that’s the extent of her acting chops, I’m guessing she hasn’t been acting for different reasons.

  4. I remember when I was young my soccer coach had me play goalie. I wanted to play other positions, even though I was objectively the best choice to play goalie. Sometimes we are good at something we are not interested in being good at.

She is great at being sad on camera, she could accept her strength or fight it. But “sad mom” is a paying job 🤷‍♂️

  5. I am super excited for Civil War and it seems like she’s going to be great in it!

  6. Yeah, and Melissa Joan Hart recently played a grandmother in a Lifetime Christmas movie. It could be worse.

  7. I can totally understand that.

But on the other hand, that’s a MASSIVE amount of privilege.

Most people can’t say “well, I decided not to work for two years because only retail positions were being offered, and I wanted management.”

  8. For the life I me I will never understand actors of her caliber still being beholden to auditions or scripts not of their own choosing. She has the fame and fortune, find your own roles, you’ve worked hard enough to get to this point.

  9. Dunst needs a cool spy franchise. She’s a great performer who has been working for decades. Someone put her in a Jason Bourne type thing

  10. Would be kind of hilarious if she is playing a mom in Civil War. At least she gets to spend time with her husband on that set

  11. Emily Blunt is up for Best Supporting Actress for saying like 5 lines on the phone and looking sad while she neglects her kids or does laundry. I get not being super excited for those roles, though, I’m sure Kirsten Dunst has already made her nut and she can pick what she wants.

  12. I really liked her in the series “On Becoming a God in Central Florida”, but she did play a sad [wife] in thst show, at least for most of it as her character developed. I wish they hadn’t canceled it.

  13. She waits much longer she won’t have to worry about that.

It’ll all be sad Grandma at that point.

  14. TBH when she’s sad on camera, she’s really freaking good at it. Like makes me cry too, good.

  15. She was so good in her lady macbeth style role in fargo s2 with plemons. She is actually so underrated

  16. She’s in the upcoming *Civil War* movie as a journalist from what I’ve heard. 🤔

Crazy to think that might’ve been filmed two years ago though.

  17. Only actors/ actresses can choose and complain about roles. I work for the trades, if work needs to be done we gotta do it to pay the bills. The fact she can sit out for 2 years while picking roles(jobs) she liked… wish we all can have that financial freedom.

Idk maybe cause 99% of us live in real society, with bills to pay. I just can’t give 2 fks about rich millionaire celebrities when they complain about these things. She can do 1 movie playing a sad mom and make more than most of us make in 5-10years. $$

Okay that sucks Kirsten, sorry you only get offer sad mom roles, but the fact you can sit out for 2 years without working and not worry about bills. I’d wish I can take a 2 month vacation, let alone 2 years.

    Anyways what’s the next story?

  18. It’s known in Hollywood that once a woman passes 30 she starts getting passed on most of the roles. I think Cameron Diaz spoke about it.

  19. Good for her, being able to pick and choose. Not all actors can.

  20. She was amazing in that film 🎥 power of the dog wow! I loved her when I was young and love her even more now.

  21. She also said she’d do a superhero movie because of the money. She would probably get 5 million at least for a “Sad mom” role.

  22. I would still take the roles if I were her that’s money, plus as you get older some roles may thin out. Can’t really be too choosy for too long. That’s just what it is.

  23. Must be nice to be able to just say no to working because it’s not your thing to portray

  24. It’s crazy considering how insanely talented she is.

  25. I would totally take two years off work if I could.
    I’d retire if I could.

More power to her. She earned being picky with roles if that’s what she wants.

I AM sad and I’d love to stop playing this pathetic role for two years. It’s stupid and I could use a break.

    Rock on Kirsten.

  26. That’s sad. She should capitalize off that emotion and play a sad mom role

  27. She was great in Melancholia. Super spooky performance, but yeah she was kinda the sad physchiatric soothsayer. Still great though.

  28. Her kiss in Spider Man is the best in movie history.
