The fuck is wrong with these people. Another hysterical, libellous tory losing their minds because some people want mass killing to stop. I just hope we aren’t picking up the bill again.
There are so many “classic antisemitic tropes” that I have never even heard of
They don’t fool me. They are clearly agents of Hydra.
Hail Hydra!
Is it even a trope if almost no one has heard of it?
If the intentions were to be antisemitic then it would probably be an actual dog whistle as I’d have totally not understood it.
I’ve seen them saying that Greta Thunberg having an octopus is somehow antisemitic.
If you’re a Muslim, you must at all times stay 10m away from all blue octopui and blue octopui merchandise.
It’s the team’s mascot but she only targeted the member of the team wearing a headscarf, demanding that she be expelled from Oxford University.
Seems like she racially abused this person. Since 2014 Lords can be expelled for serious offences like this. She’s lucky no one’s got the police involved.
Fucking hell.
A muslim, wearing white, green, red and black clothing is an anti-semite?
Who gives a shit if it’s the same colours as the Palestinian flag – even if she was **wearing** the Palestinian flag, wearing the flag doesn’t make you anti-fucking-semitic, shouting things like “kill all the jews” is what makes you anti-semitic.
Cultural appropriation, the octopus is an anti-Catholic symbol
Apologies if this comes across as rather rude (I’ve been trying to learn a lot more about antisemitism for a few years since the Labour issues). Does anyone know the link between antisemitism and octopuses?
I’ve seen one horrible Nazi propaganda cartoon from Der Spiegal in 1938, but otherwise hadn’t heard about octopuses being considered to be antisemitic up until the Richard Sharp caricature incident of 2023 (with the vampire squid).
I’m genuinely trying to be more aware of antisemitic tropes, as I never want my criticism of Israeli government to make Jewish people feel afraid to express their religion or ethnic background.
Could anyone explain the octopus/antisemitism connection? Google just links to the 1938 cartoon, the Sharp caricature, or this news story.
Sounds like we need to have a conversation about islamophobia. I don’t think for a second that Foster would have made these comments if the contestant was a white blonde lady.
I think people need to have a really think before accusing something of being a trope. A trope should be something that is used often. I think it’s fair to say that most people would not consider an octopus to be an anti-Semitic trope as it is not used often in discourse
I watched that episode live and had the same thought that the colours she was wearing had been chosen to be close the the Palestinian flag, just because of the timing of the troubles in the Middle East. I don’t notice the octopus, but if I had, I might have well put two and two together and got the same wrong answer. The fact it was recorded well before the terrorism of October 7th, shows it was just a coincidence and the BBC rightly pointed this out quickly.
I wouldn’t have condemned this woman on social media though.
I’m happy the young woman got a payout and apology from this awful politician. The conservatives love to make up antisemitism accusations but when their own politicians are seen to be racist they turn a blind eye.
Poor girl could’ve had her entire future destroyed if the uni didnt stand up to the hate they got.
no shame these people accusing something so serious so quickly and not even considering the consquences
