I bet this criminal doesn’t have a TV licence too.
From the article:
After going through a divorce and having to sell his house, Mr Meehan soon realised he couldn’t afford to buy his own home or rent one.
Not wanting to be a burden on his family or ask the state for help, he decided to live in a mobile home on a piece of land he owned.
“I had seen a mobile that had been logged out and insulated so I roped in my friends who are all trained in different trades such as carpentry and plumbing to help me upgrade the mobile home. We made sure we did it right.”
“The council said I didn’t show a social and economic need to live in the area. But I’m born and reared here. My parents and my grandparents are a mile up the road in the cemetery so I don’t understand that reason at all.”
All while the Murrays are still in their house 14 years after being told to demolish it.
Build first….see planning later…..idiotic way of going about things.
At this stage only one thing to do.
Destroy his passport and apply for Asylum….
Another example of our planning system needing modernisation
Thank God our guards are working to put scum like this away. This is why our Capital is thriving, especially among the youth.

Can he claim asylum? Would probably be treated better. Just show up at the airport without his passport.

Typical thing for the council in Tipp they always say they “understand” but what they understand is the English language. They give no shit about people in need with no other way out. Or their situation. Their shiet “procedures” and “rules” talk priority to them.
They only see such people as a burden and cattle they have to talk to for a paycheck. Most can be replaced by AI talking to them now is like talking to one now.
Jesus, this is cat. Someone has tried to do their best on their own land and not depend on the state or others to help them, they’re not harming anyone, and this is the response. Never mind the fact that the state itself has a lot of blame and the fact that this man can’t get his own place to live.
And then you look at that showed who built that massive “I’m a massive bell end” house, didn’t seek planning permission, come out every now and then with a sob story about how the council want it demolished and yet they’re still there. This man had no choice. They did.
Now compare this shit with enogh Burke & his bullshit the taxpayer is left paying for. This man should be left alone or at the very least offered something reasonable nearby
Guess they can move him into one of those hotels for free
I was worried that this would be another example of a merciless rapist, drug dealer, thief or repeatedly violent youth (Ah the poor wee lad) dodging jail time.
But hooray finally we might get some justice!!! Nice to know the justice system works and hardened career criminals like this scumbag will get what he deserves.
I hope he hasn’t had his dog microchipped, let’s really throw the book at the fucker.
We reward those who come here to actively be a burden on the state yet punish those who use their own means to prevent becoming a burden.
System is broken.
Politicians would rather someone be in prison than try to build a house without brown envelopes and we wonder why we have a housing crisis.

A video of his cabin with the audio from a RTE Radio 1 interview:
The interviewer made a good point about modular homes for refugees in Tipperary not seen as bringing down the price of local housing by the same country council.
So it’s not ok for this man to build a structure on his own land but it is for the Government to put cabins, tents and other various structures for all the various “non-irish” around the country.
Very sad state of affairs.
Can’t even legally share the details of how bad Tipp CoCo are. Inhumane sums it up.
In comparison I was helped immediately by Cork CoCo who were horrified at what Tipp did.
Each local authority can interpret the legislation in their own way so that is why there can be such a stark difference in treatment by different county councils. Find a humane one.
Yeah this is where we’re at. Collapse this disaster of a situation. It’s already too late but it’ll only get worse
The world is so fucked. Can’t even put a little cabin on your *own land* so you have somewhere to live. Even if you just want to keep to yourself and live your life quietly you have people controlling the land you paid for. I mean it’s instinct to have your own shelter… even animals want to make their own little burrow and set up their nests just how they want to. They just pick a spot that isn’t occupied and go for it.
Meanwhile, this guy has to buy his own land and then gets threatened with prison for making himself a little home. During a housing crisis.
Arrested for building on his own land. What a clown country.
This country just infuriates me so much, and depressed me to no end. I grew up in the countryside and I absolutely loved it, the peace, the nature the space. I’ve been living in the city all my adult life and I believe it to be a major factor in my depression. The more I see things like this the more I get the fear that I won’t ever be able to return to live in the countryside cause I won’t be able to afford the millionaires premium to do so. I actually feel sick hearing this.
10,000 prefabs can be erected without planning for aslym seekers, but when an Irishman builds a cabin on his own land, he’s arrested and sent to prison.
If they can bend the planning laws for people from Albania, they can do it for this guy.
