Hmm, I don’t know. If I look at GDP per capita in PPP, countries are catching up. Slovenia and the Czech Republic have already surpassed Spain. Most EE countries have surpassed Greece. I would predict that in 20 years time, Eastern Europe is considerably richer on average than Southern Europe.
Since the fall of Soviet block everything goes back to [Friedrich Naumann](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_Naumann) Mitteleuropa plan. Central Europe is to become a politically and economically integrated bloc subjected to German domination. Nothing more than a postcolonial Affrican state.
