Absolutely she should. Looked more like a political photo op. Navalny was no friend of Ukraine
Neither of them are political props.
What the fuck?
She’s not gonna leave her family in a time of crisis for a political event for another country. That seems normal and appropriate.
Then don’t blame US when they don’t care about it, attending at least puts you in their sight.
Right now USA need Navalny as symbol of compromise.
But in 2012 year, after rigged elections, when Navalny potential could lead Russian revolution to victory, the same search of compromise lead Navalny, Russia, and USA to 2014-2024 years chain of escalations.
It would have more sense if after death of Navalny USA just used “consequences of that would be devastating for Russia” Biden words for, first from start of war, real sanctions (white lists, export restrictions for neighboring Russia countries, confiscation of assets).
And started openly talk about real reasons why during 2 years of war by money USA spent on Ukraine times less than it 20 years per year spent on Afghanistan, and by weapons – on ~1% of USA weapons stock (1,2% armored vehicles, 3,3 artillery and MLRS, 0,15% military aviation, 0% military ships, 2,4% air defense)?
When NATO+EU countries paid for Russian export 3,5 times more money than they spent (without pledges) on Ukraine?
It seems like many people don’t know that Ukrainians do not like Navalny or his wife.
Ms. Zelenskyy should only accept an invitation from the US Congress if, and only IF, Speaker Johnson promises to *prostrate himself before her and beg for the forgiveness of the Ukrainian people* for allowing the Russians to steal more Ukrainian land because he is a RUSSIAN TOOL AND TRIATOR TO THE USA.
Johnson is a goddamned disgrace!
She declined citing health issues. Read the fucking article.
i’ll drop some facts so everyone is informed:
– early on, navalny was in a far right party and even said some stupid stuff
– later he joined the opposition, but even then still made comments in support of russia taking crimea
– got poisoned, released that piece on putin’s palace, the most watched russian language video on the internet i believe
– despite this, had the balls to fly back to russia knowing he’ll be arrested. and he was. then died in prison
– in his later years, he said he supports ukrainian freedom and such, so i think he had a change of heart. not sure if that’s political BS or if he meant it, but all things considered, Ukraine has valid reasons to not like their family
– that said, it still took some balls to do what he did, sacrificing himself for his country, and i do have to respect that. him saying he supports Ukraine later on helped my opinion on him too. even in his older form where he was less savory, he’s still probably be way better for russia than putin, since the bar isn’t set high lol
Huge fuck up from whoever tried to organise this. They have experts who know about this, did they just try to ignore their concerns and hope for a good photo op??
It is quite well understood in Ukraine that Navalny was not pro-Ukraine, just anti-Putin, and wanted a more efficient version of the same empire Putin wants.
1. Olena understands this. Sharing the platform with Julia **will cost her cause** at home in Ukraine. The attitude to Navalny is pretty much the same across the whole political spectrum in Ukraine, there are no split opinions.
2. Julia understands this. Despite whatever point plan Navalny’s party created on the topic in Ukraine, this manifesto was never widely publicised in Russia. Most of my Russian acquaintances (“good Russians”) did not know Navalny even had an official position on Ukraine when he died. Corruption videos and investigations – yes, of course! eloquent and forceful speeches, brilliant operators work, very polished messaging, everyone has seen them. Ukraine? Everyone just assumed Navalny just agrees with them on the topic, whether they are pro-, anti-, or “above it all”, because he’s clearly a good ‘un. For the manifesto, you need to go and dig for the document on the their website. Sharing the platform with Olena **will cost her cause** at home in Russia.
Fly halfway across the globe to listen to Biden struggle to read words off a teleprompter for an hour… Yea, hard pass on that. I don’t blame them.
Where is Tikhanovskaya? It will fun to see all three of Desperate Housewives together
Asked by Ekho Moskvy host and editor-in-chief Alexei Venediktov to share his views on the popular slogan among Russian supporters of the annexation — “Crimea is ours” — Navalny initially appeared to evade the question, saying that “Crimea belongs to the people who live in Crimea.” When pressed for a direct answer, he added that “Crimea, of course, now de facto belongs to Russia.
“Navalny told Ekho Moskvy that Crimea’s legal status could be bolstered by holding a fair referendum on secession. Ahead of the annexation this spring, a hastily prepared ballot was held amid the heavy presence of Russian troops on the peninsula.”
The US still does not understand Ukrainians.
Whatever public reasons were given, I’d decline based on security concerns alone.
