  1. Ah, Surrey and Canary Wharf… those famous parts of the North. 🙃

  2. oh those poor bankers are suffering, throw some money at them, they are in need so

  3. Tories gonna Tory

If they win the next election, after nearly two decades of blatant corruption, lies and inept government, then this country is totally doomed. Hope all those Tory voters like queuing for hours to fight over a loaf of bread

  4. I remember when I struggled to buy my first holiday home in Barbados.

When I had to hire people to clear the moat around my house .

Put a down payment on my second yacht.

    The struggle is real, people.

I will have a full bladder soon and will happily shower and trickle down on the masses .

  5. They know fully well they’re on the way out so they’re having one last hurrah for themselves. You’d have thought after 14 years they’d had enough. But parasites are never satisfied.

  6. Think news thump has jumped the shark. Their satire is going too far with this one.

  7. So places that would naturally ‘level up’ anyway. Guess they can sit on their hands and claim credit for it just like they were hoping to do with inflation.

Always the easy way lets not tackle any of the hard stuff ever.

  8. Elections are coming up people, let’s vote these idiots out!!!

  9. Great more money for cambridge as Peterborough continues to fucking rot

  10. Ironically at least 2 of those 3 areas wouldn’t vote tory no matter what they do

  11. I would like to see exactly what they are doing in Canary Wharf. Canary Wharf is full of expensive, privately built, luxury flats and I can’t imagine what or where they could spend the money or what difference it would make if they did.

However, if you look at the surrounding areas then it’s pretty poor. I can see it being used in Millwall or Poplar for example.

  12. Not satire.

    > “I managed to start changing the funding formulas to make sure areas like this (Tunbridge Wells) are getting the funding they deserved.”

    > “We inherited a bunch of formulas from Labour that shoved all the funding into deprived urban areas and that needed to be undone. I started the work of undoing that.”

  13. Once again the needs of us paupers in the Royal county and the other poor souls in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire are being ignored.

  14. People are annoyed about this investment going to the financial district (200m) and the rest going to social housing in certain boroughs of Surrey (20m) and they should be.

But what I don’t get is they’re investing 12 BILLION in improving the rail links from Manchester to Liverpool… which already has a 30 minute train and trains running late at night. Meanwhile trains on southern rail are cancelled or delayed every day and I can’t get a train back from London after 23:30 – Even with this I would be super pissed if they announced a 12b investment in southern rail. Spend THIS money on housing or the NHS ffs not on a private rail company.

  15. So the red wall constituencies in the North have been screwed for what they were worth and are now being cut adrift. You were needed for one purpose and now that has been done even in an half arsed way you are no longer needed.

  16. Ah yes. Cambridge. That famously-deprived, famously-northern city.

  17. I still have trouble taking the term levelling up seriously, it really does feel like a joke phrase now.

  18. Honestly thought this was a satirical headline for a second there

  19. Ah yes the business heart of the uk, canary wharf, needs levelling up…
