Generally I agree. Especially movies connected to streaming services coming in well over 3 hours.
Not at all. People can choose to watch shortter films if the wish.
Movies have been long for years Lawrence of Arabia, Gone with the Wind, Ben-Hur, Godfather Part 2, Gandhi are three hour plus movies. The difference is these movies had an intermission in them and nowadays most don’t. It’s the job of director to make long movies feel not as long and from my personal experience Oppenheimer exceeded that as I was watching the film and time went by fast.
I’m with the curmudgeon. *Four Weddings and a Funeral* for instance is 117 minutes. I love that movie, you laugh, you cry, you fall in love with the characters, it tells like a dozen stories and manages to do it in under 2 hours. Perfect.
It depends on the story they’re telling. Some require a long run time. But if it’s a simple romance or comedy, or if the film drags, it doesn’t need to be really long.
Yes! Way too long. Dumb long.
I actually wish they were longer. Like 8 hours long
Too many films bad films are long for the sake of it.
Dude cheated on prime Liz Hurley. I don’t much respect his opinion on matters of quality.
Booo Hugh Grant boooo I say unto you.
Anyone else watch movies at home in hour long chunks? I can’t remember the last time I sat down to watch something for three straight hours.
They may be. But I don’t like this dude so he’s not the one to ask or listen to.
Tbh I grew up watching Bollywood. 3-3.5 hours long movies is nothing to me. I always thought Hollywood films were actually short.
*G*reat films are becoming too long, yes, I find it hard to find something good to watch nowadays that is ~90 minutes long, it seems all good films are going from 120 to over 150.
Same thing with TV shows, it’s hard to find great stuff that doesn’t have 60+ minute episodes
I’m not signing up to watch any 3 hour movie in 2024
I would agree! Big reason why I don’t go to the theatres anymore. 1. I have to go to the bathroom at some point but don’t like missing anything, and 2. seeing movies on a weeknight now is usually out because they finish too late. I used to constantly go to the movies on cheap nights and be out at a decent time. Now it feels like I either have to rush home from work to catch an early showing or know that I’ll be out late with a later showing.
If your movie is over 2 hours long it should have been a miniseries.
Not many films are worthy of a 3 hour runtime. I must say, I was surprised to not reach any level of boredom or fatigue watching Killers of the Flower Moon, but I can’t say the same for the MCU movies
Weren’t directors complaining that they couldn’t make long movies anymore several years ago? That studios wouldn’t fund anything over two hours because they couldn’t get as many screenings in or something? Maybe I’m misremembering, or marvel changed that?
No good film is too long, no bad film is short enough.
