Norway needs more ammunitiont: Allows a fivefold increase in nitrogen emissions into the Oslo Fjord. In context, the Oslo fjord is already on the verge of collapse and is currently under “crisis management”

  1. Just a question, what is meant by “collapse” it all sounds very dramatic. I’ve learned that due to an increase in nitrogen some plants do better and some other plants and mostly animals do worse in that environment. I’ve also learned that if its fairly local, the environment can bounce back to its regular state rather quickly once the emissions end.

    am I missing something here?

  2. Too much nitrogen can create too much algae growth. The algae then uses up all the oxygen and everything dies.

  3. This has happened in Lough Neagh (Northern Ireland). It’s the largest lake in the British Isles. It’s fucked.
