They’ve been flying these drones over the black sea for years now, nothing new.
When Russians do it with manned aircrafts at closer ranges, it is ok. When NATO does it, it is provocative. And it is, it’s a strong message that says: “We know you are a weak military and we dare you to send something to intercept. The Black See was yours once, now is International space soon to be another NATO lake because as the war continues, every Russian aircraft flying over it will be in great danger.”
The „you wan som fuk?“ of international relations. What the ADS-B (and the Russians) did not see was the five blueballed F-22s doing barrel rolls around that drone.

Maybe they made it clear there would be Patriot batteries monitoring the airspace around it
Always test Russia’s capabilities. The US has noticed that the Russian air defences have been breached time-and-time again by Ukrainian drones. Find the Russian weaknesses and exploit them.
