Hey guys please advise as i am not sure if im getting lied to. I am awaiting payment from germany Sparkasse to my local bank (Singapore) . The sender said he is not sure why he could not transfer in real time thus he did a normal transfer. He did the transaction on 3rd march which is a Saturday and its been 5 working days so far and i called my bank to check if theres any incoming payment which they say no. Is he lying about sending the payment or does Sparkasse take this long?

Ive attached the reciepts he sent me but not sure if its fabricated.

  1. regular money transfers from a bank to another country can very well take 5 days.

  2. International transfers like that can take a long time, especially if they also need to be routed through other banks on their way to the destination. Your bank gets the information pretty late as well.

  3. Outside of the sepa payment zone ( Europe ) it can easily take a week. Judging from the app I’m pretty sure he’s not a scammer but I would advise you to wait it out

  4. It’s entirely possible to take 5 days, or in single cases even longer.

The provided Screencaps could be fabricated, but they look pretty much like a banking app to me.

For the future, if you want faster transactions, use paypal and pay the fees.

  5. Regarding the time it may be ok. BUT: “Wertstellung” is empty. And at least with my accounts this is always filled when an order is processed succesfully…

  6. It might be flagged by correspondent bank, they might ask for more information. Ask for a swift copy so you can check with your bank if there is any compliance case pending.

  7. I’ve had international transactions take up to 10 days before reaching their final destination.

  8. in germany when i transfer money to my friend via bank transfer, it takes 3 days. in singapore it would be instant. So here’s a difference for you to manage expectation. Not sure if you’re selling him something or whatever, but i think it might be realistic if everything takes 10 working days to get to your bank account.

  9. German money transfer is in general much slower than Singapore money transfer, just for you to manage your expectations. As it is an international transfer, it could take a bit more time.

I am pretty sure there is a good reason for the slower process. Explanation is beyond my pay grade. I bet some members here can explain it for you.

I know sparkasse and the receipt looks fine to me.

  10. >Saturday and its been 5 working days so far

Not in Germany. In Germany it has been 4 1/2 working days (or so)

  11. Don’t know if it’s due to strict law on data collection but German banking system is worse and slower than many from developing countries.

  12. I transfer money across multiple countries quite a lot and from personal experience it‘s taken almost 2 weeks before outside of Europe so it could be legit but no way to find out other than waiting.

    Edit: sent too soon

  13. It says “04.03.2023” in the first slide. That smells a bit fishy, does it not?

  14. Bank clerk here. Transfer outside of the SEPA zone have to be made using a Z1 form and transferred manually. Especially if your banks aren’t partnered in any way, a z1 transfer can take up to three weeks.
