I’m replying to Els van Doesburg, but she’ll probably not read this (I’m aware). I think it’s important to debunk her stupid arguments so others can read this and discuss this with me.
1. Talking about womens rights is an important thing, because awareness can lead to change. I don’t need to tell the N-VA that, they know that already, because they’ll do this with their talking points all the time.
2. Equality also benefits poor and uneducated women. I’m appaled by the fact that I need to explain that. Off course, poor people have more important things to tackle (making ends meet, for example) than womens day, but that’s why upperclass educated people need to fight for their rights.
3. Victimhood: it takes one to know one, right, N-VA? This argument don’t needs to be debunked. Structural inequality between men and women is still a thing, even in our country. The difference in pay for example. Els knows this, but was out of arguments.
4. Another example of victimhood. She thinks right conservative women can’t participate in womens day. Why? She never explains.
5. I’m a man. I participate in womens day. I have meaningfull conversations with women about womens day. I fight for equal rights. She never gives an argument about why men can’t be part of womens day, she just makes a – wrong – statement.
If you really need to know why we still needs a women day, look at your colleagues: Trump, Orban, Driesje, Hoeyberghs, half of VB, Look at boards of directors that still are mainly white. Look at the pay gap, look at violence against women,..
