We’ll get a budget this week but what is it a budget is the main moment where the government can announce changes to tax rates and set out plans for spending on public services things like the NHS and schools they tend to happen once a year usually but not always in the spring and
Then there’s a smaller version of the budget that tends to take place in the Autumn now this one’s especially important because it’s almost certainly the last full budget before the next general election I think that means we’re likely to see some tax cuts in an attempt to win votes maybe National
Insurance coming down a tax paid by people who are in work now the question will be how is it paid for we know the government has been looking at scrapping non-dom status a perk in the tax system that tends to benefit the super wealthy they might also decide to cut back
Future spending even further there’ll be headlines the government wants you to focus on but as ever it’s the detail that’s usually more important
