The solution is improving conditions in the criminal justice system. The author notes that the way we imprison women is “disproportionate, cruel and simply unnecessary”. Deeper investigation would reveal this is true for the way we imprison anybody.
In the same way, the conclusion that what pregnant women really need is community rehabiliative approaches that are “accepting, non-judgmental and trauma-informed” is also true for everybody currently in prison. Why are we prioritising the needs of women and babies over men and adults? What unspoken assumptions about human value and entitlement to dignity are at work here?
Babies should not die in prison. Stop it through wholesale reform and improvement of the criminal justice system. It is not legitimate to try and make yourself feel better about a brutal and broken system by giving preferential treatment only to those groups that you feel less comfortable in brutalising.
Here are the options:
* Improve the conditions they are in and move them to a specific wing where they can be watched 24/7.
* Depending on the length of term they have an abortion.

Pretty much it really because they are in jail for a reason.
The real question is why are pregnant women willing to risk their unborn babies lives by committing crimes?

What’s the alternative? How do you manage violent offenders who are pregnant?
Just a note to say that this was discussed on this sub yesterday:
