After the photo was taken Ian quickly handed the sledgehammer to some working class lackey just out of shot, to do the actual smashing. He would later tell officers that whilst he was at the premises on the day smashing was discussed, and had conversations with those accused of the smashing, he in fact left the premises just before any actual smashing was discussed.
I think that’s the sledge hammer he used to destroy Sinn Féin.
