It’s already pretty well known that it’s Robert Del Naja from Massive Attack.
If an a-hole art collector outed me to verify his ‘Banksy’ art to establish provenance; I would be an a-hole artist and ‘confirm’ it was a forgery. My loss of anonymity would = his loss of value $.
I thougth Banksy was a collective lol
How do you sue someone whose name you don’t know?
Prediction: Name is John Doe
I hope they get to court, Banksy stands up and says, “I’m Banksy” and then we have a Spartacus moment and like a dozen others stand up and say, “No, I’m Banksy”
So my boss says that his mom knows banksy mother
I prefer some mystery personally.
tl;dr
Art collectors want to verify they have a Banksy. Banksy’s company, Pest Control, have not acknowledged or certified said art collectors if they have a Banksy. It’s been 3 years.
They don’t care about the real name, they only care about the authenticity of the piece. They’re suing the company, Pest Control. Courts tend to reveal stuff though.
There is no guarantee that they will reveal the name though. That’s clickbait headline.
>His identity has long been a matter of speculation and investigation, but Banksy may be forced to reveal his real name if a dispute over a print of the late Queen Elizabeth depicted as a bejewelled primate ends up in court.
That’s the only mention of the the name getting revealed in reference to this case.
> Katz, 65, a Londoner who owns a quarry and an art collection that includes a large number of Banksy works, said that Monkey Queen is worth between £55,000 and £70,000 and he is outraged by Pest Control’s delay: “We’re in no man’s land, and it’s a lot of money. **They claim to be the official validators of this artist’s work. But this has been going on for three years. They’re just sitting on the fence – they won’t say whether it’s right or wrong.** We have had our tails pulled for the whole three years.”
>He said, addressing Pest Control: “‘You’ve had the work; you’ve inspected it. Is it right or is it wrong? That’s the service that you claim to provide. **If it’s wrong, that’s OK, because we will have a claim on the estate the piece was bought from. If it’s right, great. Just give us the paperwork we need to validate it.’ They’re not providing a proper service.”**
>Legal action is now the only option, he added: **“We’re suing Pest Control for breach of contract. They’ve had three years to do what I paid them [£50] to do, which by any standard is plenty of time to deal with the situation.”**
Wait Banksy isn’t known? I thought it was just the dudes name lol
I bet Banksy is a girl probably from the documentary or a collective.
Suing over a 50 pound service, I’m amazed their payment hasn’t just been refunded at this point. Seems a simple matter to refund and say we really aren’t sure.
Don’t see Banksy getting outed over this
Shit. They got me.
My takeaway is the phrase in the article that banksy often chooses not to identify art if he deems the buyer to be an asshole. Seems pretty on brand for Banksy. This buyer sounds like a real prick.
I’m NOT gonna reveal my name
Collecting Banksy art sounds counter-culture to the piece’s messages.
*The unveiling finally occurs*
“Rowan Atkinson?!?!”
I can’t believe he’s still anonymous, to stay anonymous while being that famous in 2024 is crazy. Like no nerds on 4chan have figured it out yet?
