>With more than 10,000 students from China, UCL is reported to have the largest cohort which makes up almost a quarter of its total student population.
Insane
> “You might have just one or two Chinese students in a department who are very nationalistic and might feel it’s their duty. But they can then impose pressure on the other Chinese students to act in a particular way and the really scary thing is that they then report back to the (Chinese Communist Party) if the other Chinese students don’t do as the nationalistic Chinese students demand.”
Those nationalistic students should be expelled. They’re essentially acting as spies and overseas police for a foreign government.
Yes lets educate the citizens of the country we will inevitably be going to war with in the next few decades. We spent two decades kissing Russian ass and that turned out so well.
The solution to universities relying so much on international student fees, and where that leads, is more public spending to ensure places at universities are filled by people who mostly already live here.
Begs the question why single out China like that when they aren’t even top 10 of countries in terms of modern slaves? Seems like a wind up merchant if anything For the drive by down voters – at least read the article. The lecturer’s own slides even say China isn’t the worst offender. I’d be asking why India has so many (a free Democracy)
It’s another example of how this government has offered us a supposed tax cut but done nothing about the under funding of the whole education sector including universities, the NHS, and all the other public services.
This is a continuation of the trend for university students to dictate what can and can’t be taught and said on campus. It’s hard to see any good coming from it.
Why are the people in charge so easily coerced? Maybe thats where change needs to take place.
We all love to see the tail wagging the dog. It just makes sense.
DO NOT TOUCH THIS SUBJECT….YOU ARE NOT THE SAME AGE.
We’ve reached the stage where it might be better to have separate programs for domestic and international students. May as well teach them in Chinese.
