Personally I don’t want my cars MOT in the hands of a commercial garage, leaves the door open for further fleecing from corporate greed.
At least with an independent system like ours there is no incentive for MOT staff to try to carry out repairs or changing parts to pass for vehicle.
Saying nothing will change, isn’t exactly making any major decisions.
If you want to be making decisions get your party elected and get yourself into a ministerial post.
I’ve used both MOT systems, England’s is superior without question. Drop my car off to the mechanic, full service and then passes the MOT for me (you still get a full service invoice and separate MOT sheet which you can dispute if you feel inclined), then I pick it up next day.
What’s not to like? It’s worth discussing, something has to change the MOT system in NI is broke.

That’s a stretch of a title.
