Soaring petrol prices in Cuba are a cause of great concern for Havana residents • FRANCE 24

Snaking qes for petrol have become a regular feature of life in Havana in recent times and blurry-eyed motorists have become accustomed to spending literally days in line for gasoline these lines have become the norm it’s tedious we spend hours on line to fill up just 40 lers of

Fuel to address a cash crunch the ruling Communist party has raised the price of petrol five fold they’re importing most of their oil and so they’re importing it at World Market prices and selling it very very much less and so that’s costing the government they’ve got a

Huge fiscal deficit the price hikes are unpopular and have been met with apprehension they shouldn’t raise prices that much but what can we do oel who has traveled 30 km to wait in line as there’s almost never fuel in his Town’s petrol station is the only we found in favor of the price

Rises there’s no fuel where I live so I have to come to buy it here I’m not too bothered about the price rise what I want is to be able to arrive at a petrol station and fill up without waiting in line today’s price Rises substantially reduce fuel

Subsidies until this month a liter of petrol here in Cuba cost just 12 cents of US dollar cheaper than almost any other country in the world but even these prices were expensive for Cubans who’ve seen their tiny salaries crushed by inflation in recent years in the short term the move will spur inflation

And on an island where the average salary has dropped to the equivalent of just $16 a month people are worried this week it was revealed that the Cuban government has asked the UN world food program to help it get milk to children on the island with malnutrition increasing these price Rises touch a

  1. I hope Cuba joins BRICS+ Lavrov was in Cuba recently. Cuba needs markets after years of US sanctions. Maybe Russia should put its missiles back in Cuba and help with crude oil since the west are very keen on Ukraine joining the expanded NATO. Remember the argument that lead to the Ukraine Conflict? It was Ukraine Sovereign Right to choose its alliances. Substitute Ukraine with Cuba and should be the same even though Cuba does not border the US directly like Ukraine to Russia

  2. See the way I look at it is this. Worry about your own country first. You dont.live there, just as you don't live in America. It's best that you keep your nose in your own countries affairs instead of nosing into others business.

  3. Oh no..not more Cubans to America…that is all we need more of these people to celebrate Cuba in America….once they get here, they quickly forget the misery of that island. American tax payers have to pay for everything so they can talk about how great Cuba is all day long.

  4. In iran there was riots when petrol price increased by 5 fils, that much money is pumped into the countries by western governments for rioters

  5. It’s wild seeing all the old American cars still on the road after like 80 years. You by a Nissan or Hyundai and it breaks down in the road next to the dealership
