Putin sacks Russian Navy chief amid crippling losses

    Vladimir Putin has reportedly replaced the head of his Navy in a move that follows a string of high-profile Ukrainian strikes on the Black Sea Fleet.

    The Kremlin-backed newspaper Izvestia said that Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, who had been commander of the Russian Navy since May 3, 2019, had been “dismissed and will be replaced” by Admiral Aleksandr Moiseyev.

  3. Nobody can accuse Putin of rushing a decision. After 2 years of devastating and avoidable losses to a country without a navy, he decided to try a different approach.

  5. Cheif hey? So he’s what – 2 admirals down or something? And since he hasn’t had time to replace the most recent, now he sacks the next level down. I’ve lost track of the structure and how many changes there have been. All this because having a new “chief” will automatically neutralize effective surface drones.

  6. Is the Black Sea big enough to need any higher rank than a couple of new naval academy graduates?
