‘Looks like Omicron wave has peaked’, says professor

  1. Onwards and upwards lads and ladies, soon enough we will be waking up on a Sunday morning with a dose of the fear like in the olden days.

  2. “A professor of immunology at Maynooth University has said it looks like the Omicron wave has peaked, but it is ‘difficult to be completely sure.’”

    Alternative headline: “Person makes guess”

How the fuck is this news? Why was this person interviewed when they don’t actually know that it has definitely peaked and is just basing it on past trends? The goal posts have moved for fuck sake. Conditions aren’t the same now as in previous waves, for example under 40s can’t get a PCR test now. The restrictions on movement are now changed for close contacts and for people that tested positive. How good are people at taking the antigen tests, but more importantly how good are they at uploading the results if they’re positive?

People know that things will stay restricted and locked down if the case numbers are too high or the hospital numbers in particular are too high or continuing to grow, it’s not beyond people to not report they are positive if they thought it would lead to restrictions being in place longer, as a lot of people are fed up of restrictions and just want everything to go back to the way it was. And we all know people in this country have a very “sure those rules and laws don’t apply to me anyway” mentality and won’t follow the government advice or instructions. But they’ll turn around and blame the government if something happens them even though they ignores the advice.

  3. I’ve been saying it would peak mid January since before october when stephen donnelly said we were reaching the peak

It didn’t take much bar watching the 2020-21 winter season covid trend to see how this virus would go with a full year/season (which peaked last January 10th across our region of west EU)

Its also my theory that the first “wave” was actually the tail end of covid in the previous 2020 winter, we just didnt know it was here or count deaths until March/April

But sure I was called a fool for saying it would follow a seasonal trend regardless of restrictions
