  1. Again?

Edit: Correction, this is someone higher in the chain of command.

  2. Are all of these commanders picked by their appearance?

  3. Damn, hope the next guy is just as incompetent too. Still more ships that need sinking.

  4. >Under Sokolov’s leadership, the Russian fleet in the region lost more than 20% of its composition to damage and destruction.

The Newsweek article on the subject says that the number even higher:

    >The Hudson Institute think tank told Newsweek that Ukraine “is on pace to eliminate half of Russia’s once-powerful Black Sea Fleet by 2025” and that “Ukraine has sunk or heavily damaged approximately 30% of the fleet since the war began.”

    >

  5. I guess there is no need for a commander if there is nothing to commandeer?

  6. Why? There are a large number of new submarines on the bottom of the Black Sea he is responsible for….;-)

  7. I will pay cash money to the first person that can show me a Russian man that isn’t as ugly as a hat full of arseholes. Bad genetics?

  8. Well you know things are not exactly going great on the economy right now so any number of Rubles that can be saved…..

Every disaster needs a scapegoat and this is him. Only way to have avoided the losses would have been keeping the ships in port a long long way away.

  9. I happen to have received a transcript of the conversation, which I have translated to the best of my ability:

Putin: Admiral Yevmenov. Thank you for coming. I want to talk to you about the future of the Russian Navy.

Yevmenov: Supreme Commander, I assure you that everything is being done to secure victory in the Special Operation.

P: Yes well about that. It has come to my attention recently that you may have lost most of the Black Sea Fleet.

Y: What?? Supreme Commander, this is shocking news. I assure you that if any of the Black Sea Fleet is missing, we will locate it at once.

P: That’s all very well and good Yevmenov but my sources inform me that much of it has been sunk.

Y: Inconceivable! The Black Sea Fleet is protected from attack by some of the finest fleet-defense cruisers ever built.

P: Yes well, that is one of the issues, have you seen *Moskva* lately?

Y: Well not *lately* but I’m sure it’s around here somewhere.

P: That’s what I assumed, too, until I heard a rumor that it was sunk 2 years ago. Did you know about that?

Y: Well you know how communications are at sea, it’s possible that there is a lag.

P: I had Sokolov in here last month to ask about the same thing. He tried to conceal the fact that he had already been killed by the Ukrainians weeks before. It was disappointing. Not to mention a bit of a mess on the carpet.

Y: Sokolov can’t possibly have been killed! I’m sure I’ve seen him around somewhere or another.

P: Well the point is the same no matter what. It has started to occur to me that Russia may not actually be enjoying a string of entirely unbroken victories in the Special Operation. I fear we may not actually even take Kyiv soon. Despite what the maps show in the Kremlin.

Y: Ground operations aren’t my thing, I am an admiral, not a general.

P: True, fair point, but on that point, I think it is time for a change of command in the navy. Don’t you agree?

Y: Supreme Commander I must protest!

P: Totally understandable, I am a reasonable person, let’s discuss it further over tea in the Window Room.

Y: … On reflection, Supreme Commander, I think that I see the value in what you propose.

P: Strategically brilliant as always, Yevmenov. Brilliant as always.

  10. Ah yes, commander of the Northern Fleet. He didn’t lose any boats, unlike this guy. Clearly the better option.

  11. The Navy has been inadequate, not because of the commander, but because they’re just inadequate.

  12.

UK ( From Bristol too )

Brenda from Bristol… “You’re joking – not another one!”

  13. To think 2 years ago these idiots thought they would be partying in Kyiv and drinking champagne in the streets. Here they are getting fired and losing boats.

  14. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened sooner. He was losing ships to an opponent that *de facto* has no Navy.

  15. Rapidly running out of ships so his services are not needed anymore.

Maybe he should consider swapping sides as the Ukrainians have had a more successful Naval campaign even without a navy…👌
