  1. It weird because while I agree it not being a complete film is a massive draw the effort that’s gone into the experimenting with the animation real one of those incredible visual experiences. Not saying the boy and the heron wasn’t but felt a ‘directors movie” if you know what I mean.

  2. > I’m young, and a fighter, so forgive my nature. Congrats to the winners.

    At least he can apologize.

  3. You must have been high to think you were going to beat a ghibli film

  4. Haven’t seen the Miyazaki film, but AtS was simply amazing.

  5. They are both insanely good films, but I wouldn’t say Spider-Verse was robbed. Spider-Verse won in 2018, and this new sequel was not a complete film. Plus the academy tends to lean towards original ideas instead of popular IP.

I am glad Boy and the Heron won, it was beautiful.

  6. I loved Spider Man. It was a work of art. But I’m glad there’s diversity in animation these days. Disney and Illumination are just factories reskinning the same stories.

The animation industry has so much going for it right now.

  7. I watched across the spider-verse twice, the second time I was on an air flight and was still entertained throughout the entire movie and somehow blown away by the visuals even though I was watching it in my phone screen

  8. Across the Spider-Verse was a much better movie, The Boy and the Heron was a little underwhelming, which was disappointing. Not a bad movie by any means, but it’s far from Miyazaki’s best

  9. The first movie got an Oscar why does the second one need one.

  10. I think spider-verse was the better experience. But the boy and the heron was the better film. Personally neither were my favorite animated film or 2023. But Nimona was doa.

  11. It was nice to see a traditionally animated film win best animated. It’s been a while I think.

  12. No, no, no, He actually has the right to be pissed. Spider-Verse was amazing.

  13. There is something disingenuous when the person themselves gives the “I’m young” excuse. Not exactly why, but it doesn’t feel quite right to me.

  14. Dunno why he’s sore about it, the first one won the Oscar and it’s not his Oscar to lose since it had everything to do with the Animation team

  15. *The Boy and the Heron* deserved this award and I’m so glad the Academy felt the same way. It wasn’t my favorite Miyazaki film, but still…a beautifully animated film painting a story of grief and acceptance and letting go and “forgetting is ok”, written by a master craftsmen in his final years? Jeez what a punch to the gut. Throw in the sound and the absolutely stunning Hisaishi score and it was really a lovely piece and I’m glad it was honored. Thinking about it, I would have even been okay with it in Best Picture (I’m not sure where it would have fit in my lineup at the moment, tho)

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted but *Spider-Verse* was only an ok film, with a fairly generic narrative that just a felt a bit shallow especially in a time when we are in multi-verse fatigue. Obviously the animation is impressive as hell (though to be honest some of it bothers my eyes so I can’t say I’m a total fan, though I can absolutely appreciate the talent and work that went into it). I just didn’t think it was a good as the first one. But I imagine the next part is basically guaranteed to win the Oscar when it’s out. I’m hoping the next one pulls me in a little more than this second one did.

  16. Why ask for forgiveness? Why is it an issue with him thinking that Spider-Man should have won?

  17. I preferred Spiderverse. But i dont think the academy is big on movies which are incomplete and waiting for a sequel. Maybe they will give it to the third if it’s as good this one.

  18. Boy and the Heron was better. I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but I don’t think spider verse was that good. It’s half a film so we have to finish it.

  19. Most years they would have won.

But when you go up against something that approaches the GOAT Spirited Away, it just might not be possible.

  20. Just write your feelings down in your diary and go sleep. No need to post every thought that might need a retraction or apology

  21. “Robbed” by the master storyteller and visionary Hayao Miyazaki
