  1. That was an interesting read: I’ve known about his struggles for years, but wasn’t aware it was likely genetic, and like most, just chalked it up to fans bullying him. Plus his sister dying certainly didn’t help.

  2. > As for “Star Wars,” his mother said Jake is still a huge fan of the movies and shows. Most recently, he’s been watching episodes of the “Ahsoka” series on Disney+. Lisa even gave Jake an action figure of the lead character Ahsoka Tano last week as a birthday present.

    > “He loves all the new ‘Star Wars’ stuff,” she says. “People think Jake hates ‘Star Wars.’ He loves it.”

    > Lisa acknowledges that high school kids would sometimes bully Jake over “Star Wars,” something he mentioned in past interviews. But she says walking away from Hollywood had more to do with family drama at home.

    > “People say he quit because of ‘Star Wars.’ Well, that’s not true. It didn’t have anything to do with ‘Star Wars.’ It had more to do with our family. And we were going through a divorce,” Lisa explained. “Things were unsettled and kind of rough. And Jake didn’t seem to be having a lot of fun auditioning anymore.”

    > Lisa said Jake still likes wearing “Star Wars” T-shirts and sometimes gets recognized in public. When asked if she sees Jake one day starring in another “Star Wars” project, Lisa said it’s not something that’s in the cards.

    > “Jake loved filming ‘Star Wars.’ He had so much fun,” she recalled. “I would love for him to get well enough to be able to do a little bit of something, and I’m sure he would maybe like to do that. He couldn’t at this point, but you never know how much he’s going to improve. So we’ll see.”

Poor guy dealing with paranoid schizophrenia. It’s great his mother has been able to share this and clarified what happened to him after The Phantom Menace. It’s nice to know he still loves Star Wars. 🙂

  3. Why does his mom have to insert herself into her son’s story?

  4. What an incredible mom. She’s a real-life hero.

  5. I hope he gets better. Mental illness is rampant in my family, so I know his mothers pain.

  6. Mental illness is so scary and tragic. We know so little about it, my heart breaks at how we can lose loved ones in such a way. They are right here physically, but it’s like their old selves are trapped behind their condition, and you just want them to come back.

  7. I put on jingle all the way at Christmas, gave the wee lad a Google because I’m a nosy nelly and ended up not watching the movie because I felt so sad for him.

    Such a talent.

  8. In case anyone’s wondering, the “Child Actor” that ScrippsNews found it fit to not even mention by name was Jake Lloyd, who played Young Anakin Skywalker in Episode 1

  9. Dang that’s crazy. When I was in like 4th grade I had a crush on him.

Poor guy. I had a row of like 20 Pepsi cans, all with him saved on my window for like 5 years.

  10. I’d probably disconnect from reality a bit too after hanging out with Jar Jar Binks that long frfr

  11. People always told me I looked like Anakin as a kid when Phantom Menace came out and I never understood it, then saw this picture and thought I was looking at myself for half a second.

  12. Wait, what? The article says he briefly went to the same college I graduated from *while* I was going there. Wtf. I probably bumped into him once and didn’t even know it.

Weirdly small world we live in…

  13. I met Jake Lloyd at a on years ago. He was very wonderful to my niece.

  14. This is a terrifying condition. Imagine being on a permanent acid trip. I’m not sure if schizophrenia is the same, but some of the things he experienced reminds me of stuff I saw in a bad trip. I thought it would never end, and that was only for a few hours. Wishing Jake a full recovery, and normal life.

  15. These battles are never won, they are just fought by families day by day. I really admire Jake’s mother. She really has been through a lot and keeps going. I hope the best for them both.
