  1. Women’s football has to be one of the fastest, if not the fastest, growing sport in this country at this point. If even three years ago you were to say the game would be getting these attendances it would have seemed very unlikely.

  2. More tv coverage and the success of the England women’s team has had an impact I am sure.

  3. Great news, if they want equal pay, this is how you get it. Grow the sport so it’s equal there too

  4. I’m surprised it’s not more than that.

Walking through Central London on a match day, you see a hell of a lot more football fans on days when women’s teams are playing than ever before. The other day I was in Waterloo station when Arsenal women had been playing and I saw as many Arsenal shirts as I’d expect to see when the men’s team are playing!

The fans were a lot less cunty and there was less need for a police presence too… But that’s a separate matter!

  5. Glad to know that Pam finally has someone to go with.

  6. Good to see. That being said, ticket prices for the recent north london derby were…

    – adult: £15
    – under 17s: £7.50
    – over 65s: £11.25
    – 18-24: £11.25

Easy to flog tickets at those prices. It’s also difficult to see how the matchday itself turns any profit. Something of an issue, given that these set piece events will likely be the highest earning days for most WSL clubs.

I’m not sure what their tv commercial arrangements look like, but they’d better be extensive … unless everybody’s happy with the men’s team continuing to indirectly fund the women. Let’s be clear, that’s neither the narrative we’re told nor the one that should continue.

  7. Is it just attendance up from free tickets giveaways or actual sales, because if it’s actual sales then the women’s footballers can start asking for more money because it proves more people want the product, but if the fa and clubs are giving the tickets away they’re not going to get more money

  8. I dont like how theyve stopped specifying its womens football. When you hear chelsea win in the champions league they wait a good while before saying its womens football. They have to trick you into being interested

  9. How much of this is being driven by a few huge matches compared to say the median attendance?
