Great idea. ~~Boing~~ Boeing having so much trouble lately and using something European instead. Approved 😀
This sub is slowly turning into a military sub. 😀
AWACS planes always look completely nuts
As a Swede I support this.
Globaleye > E-7, I promise 🫢
No bias here.
But for real I don’t know a lot about the Globaleye, but if there is sufficient automation of information processing it should be able to support even large fleet of aircraft assuming the radar is powerful enough. If there is one thing SAAB does well, it’s software usability and optimizing their equipment for efficiency with a small crew, so I reckon it could do a very good job even in an air force as large as the Fremch air force.
Practice what you preach, France should buy European.
That would be a really good move, both from a European-industrial perspective and from the political perspective of the French push for more internal European arms purchase and development.
Saab is going to make bank for the next 10 years at least.
EU should *always* buy EU goods, weapons and planes. You would never hear of America buying from us, so why should we just hand over all our money to them?Â
Having flown on the E-3, E-7 and Saab-340 Erieye (same radar as Globaleye) I feel pretty confident to say that the E-7 is by far the superior platform. If you are a tier 1 military and want to project power you need E-7. If you are a small country and use it only for defence the Globaleye is a sensible compromise.
I can understand that France may want to select the Globaleye (and probably actually fit the radar on an Airbus) to avoid the ITAR issues with American equipment as the rest of the West continues to ween ourselves off American weapons.
