What happened to any of the subcultures?
From my childhood I remember the last of the Teddy Boys, wrinkled skin & slicked back grey hair.
The Rockers & Mods are now long gone, even the latters 90s’ copycats are as far removed from the present as they were from their forebears.
The Punks regale (bore) their grandchildren with tales of their mispent youth. The Goths went from their corner of the dancefloor, to the occasional sighting of a solitary, furtive individual, to nothing. I’m told the remaining survivors squeeze into their antique costumes yearly for a gathering in Whitby.
The last time I witnessed skinheads was a small group at a train station on New Years Eve a decade ago, booted up, going wherever skinheads go.
The skaters can no longer take falls, the emos died out from shame.
Occasionally you see shadows of the past, a girl dressed in dungarees like the Midnight Runners of Dexy himself, a lad dressed in denim with a headband & a Guns & Roses t-shirt, but these are just lone individuals involved in a ironic cosplay of history rather than part of any subculture.
As for the kids today, as far as I know they don’t have subcultures, I guess such things are obsolete in the modern world.
