    never was this more true. we fear (well, the oligarchs fear) the consequences of taking action; but there are heavy consequences to not taking action.

    our political paralysis doesn’t stop things from happening.

    This has happened before. There are all sorts of civilizations where the ruling classes clung to their dogma as the world collapsed around them.
