These guys seem to have been quiet for a while. I heard about them a lot at the start of the war, but then there was nothing. Have they only now become more active?

It’s a brave thing to do, knowing what would happen to them if they were captured by Kremlin forces.
The more chaos they can sow within Russia the less Russia can devote to terrorising Ukraine, and the threat of Russia isn’t going away until the current cabal in the Kremlin falls, so it’s going to take brave and good men like this to make it happen.
If they can sustain a gorilla war campaign within Russia to divert troops away from Ukraine, then all power to them. Just don’t die in an open battle on Russias terms.
Hopefully, Ukraines’ high command is taking notes on how weak the border is vs the entrenched positions in the south and east.
